OmniVision quadruples resolution and downsizes the world’s smallest commercial image sensor

Published

OmniVision Technologies today announced the OH0TA OVMed medical imaging sensor. The body size of this sensor is only 0.55mm x 0.55mm and the optical format is 1/31 inch. This is smaller than the OV6948, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as “the smallest commercially available image sensor.”

RGB resolution is quadrupled from OV6948. It is 400 x 400 pixels. Like its predecessor, the new sensor can form an image at 30 fps, but the power consumption has been reduced by 20% – to 20 mW. This allows designers to add ultra-compact imaging to disposable and reusable endoscopes, as well as catheters and guidewires with a small outer diameter of only 1 to 2 mm. Alternatively, the uniquely small size of this sensor gives medical device manufacturers the ability to create larger diameter devices with a large working channel.

The OV6948 has a pixel size of 1.0 μm. The sensor uses a proprietary multilayer PureCel Plus-S technology. It delivers high color accuracy and low light sensitivity of 3600 mV / lx s and a high signal-to-noise ratio of 37.5 dB. The sensor supports a 4-wire interface as well as raw analog data output. In both cases, the cable length can be up to 4 m. Ease of use is provided by the ability to interface with the OmniVision OV426 ADC microcircuit. In addition, the probe is autoclavable, making it suitable for reusable endoscopes.

OH0TA samples are already available.

Take fire on yourself the creators spoke about the capabilities

The Surrogat-V underwater drone, codenamed Vedomoy, presented at the Army 2022 forum, can imitate a submarine, distract the enemy, and also take fire on itself.

An important function of the “Surrogate” is the imitation of a covered boat. By depicting its hydroacoustic “portrait” with the help of onboard means, the drone will be able to lead the enemy on a false trail or cause fire on itself. It is very difficult to get into it because of its small size and good maneuverability.

Representative of the Central Design Bureau “Rubin”.

Like the first Surrogate, the drone can imitate a submarine in exercises, testing new detection systems and anti-submarine weapons. The drone is equipped with sonar countermeasures, which allows you to play very complex tactical episodes.

The “Surrogate” drone was presented along with a mock-up of the prospective strategic nuclear submarine “Arktur”. In the aft part of the submarine there are two lockable compartments intended for Surrogates. Drones can also act as “sentinels”, patrolling the waters around the submarine on combat duty.

The developers also drew the attention of journalists to the camouflage of blue triangles on the top of the drone, which should reduce the visibility of the device for anti-submarine aircraft and drones.

Recall that the displacement of the drone is 40 tons, and the range reaches 1500 km.
