OmniVision OV32B 32MP Image Sensor Designed for Smartphone Front Cameras

Published

on

OmniVision Technologies announced the OV32B image sensor with 0.7 micron pixel size. This 1/3-inch optical format sensor is designed for the front cameras of smartphones. Its resolution is 32 megapixels.

The manufacturer attributes the OV32’s merits to support for HDR with two and three exposures for video modes with a resolution of up to 8 megapixels and static images. The sensor has a built-in color filter array and debayer hardware to display full-resolution images in real time.

The OV32B uses a proprietary technology PureCel Plus, which allows you to receive high-quality 1080p photos and videos at 180 fps. In low light conditions, this sensor can use binning to quadruple light sensitivity at the cost of reducing the resolution to 8MP. The ability to quickly switch modes and multi-camera sync makes the sensor well suited not only for front cameras, but also for main cameras consisting of several modules.

To improve autofocus accuracy, especially in low light, the sensor offers the ability to integrate phase focusing (ML-PDAF) pixels. There are CPHY and DPHY interfaces to connect to the processor. Output formats include 32MP @ 15fps, 8MP @ 60fps, 6MP (16: 9) @ 90fps, 1080p @ 120fps, 1.5MP (16: 9) @ 240 fps and 720p at 360 fps.

OV32B demo samples are now available.
