New York-based commercial real estate company Okada & Company has listed a seven-story NFT office building for sale. The 4,301 sqm property is located in the Chelsea area, steps away from Madison Square Park.

The token is listed on the OpenSea marketplace for 15,000 ETH (more than $26.6 million at the current exchange rate) and gives the right to purchase a physical building.

“You get real estate after buying NFTs. You can live in the building or rent it out. It’s not just an expensive jpeg,” tweeted agency CEO Chris Okada.

This is not Okada’s first NFT real estate initiative of its kind. The firm began offering NFTs back in March to encourage brokers to help rent a commercial building in New York City. Membership in a “private dining club” billed as “the world’s first NFT restaurant” was one such incentive.

“It’s a way to capture what’s going on in the world of commerce and technology,” said Chris Okada at the time.

When a real estate agency listed a building in New York as an NFT, the community had questions as to why bother with all crypto payments when the buyer has to go through the traditional real estate process to own the property later anyway.

To which Christopher replied that Okada & Company is exploring ways to find new and innovative ways to sell real estate. But due to US SEC regulations, the firm had to do so for now, but is trying to find a way to fully “tokenize” the procedure soon.
