Nvidia will present the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti on May 18

Published

As a Chinese source writes with reference to a resource that is very well aware of the plans of video card manufacturers and is practically not mistaken, Nvidia has decided on the date of the official premiere of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti video card. It will take place on May 18th.

The new data does not differ at all from the previous leak, which mentioned the start of sales of new items on May 26. Indeed, the dates of the announcement and the start of sales will be separated by 8 days. And the day before the start of sales, on May 25, the ban on the publication of reviews will be lifted – then we will find out what the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is really capable of both in games and in mining. Regarding the latter: the early version of the model, which did not have hardware protection against mining, after a small adjustment, produced 120 MH / s, but in the final version, the performance of a 3D card when mining cryptocurrency will be halved – that is, a regular GeForce RTX 3070 will be even more profitable for miners …

Let us briefly recall the characteristics of the model. The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti features a GA102-225 GPU with 10,240 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory with a 384-bit memory bus. It is expected that the recommended cost of new items will be about $ 1200. Due to the shortage of video cards, it will, of course, be more expensive at retail, but the protection against mining makes the new product unattractive for cryptocurrency miners, and, therefore, there is a hope that the price will not rise much – not twice.

About a month after the announcement of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, the official GeForce RTX 3070 Ti should take place – also with hardware protection against mining. But the GeForce RTX 3060, which, in theory, should have received protection from mining first, will acquire such protection only at the end of May, and this is at best.

JetStream are back Palit GeForce RTX 4080 and 4070 Ti

Palit returns to the production of JetStream video cards. More than two years after the release of the GeForce RTX 3070 JetStream, the company introduced the GeForce RTX 4080 and 4070 Ti JetStream. These models differ from analogues in the absence of RGB backlighting.

At one time, manufacturers of various hardware were so carried away by the introduction of backlighting into everything that is possible that now its absence is already perceived as a “trick”. On the other hand, the frequencies here are completely standard, and from this point of view, the lack of backlight is more of a savings factor.

Video cards look almost the same – and rather modestly. However, they are long – 329 mm (after all, there are three fans) and rather thick (they take up 3.1 slots). It is possible that dual-fan models will also appear in the JetStream series, but already based on the GeForce RTX 4070 or GeForce RTX 4060. The cost of new products has not yet been announced.

Nvidia says its Grace CPU Superchip is twice as fast

Nvidia said that its Arm-based Grace CPU Superchip processor in tests with real workloads shows a twofold increase in performance compared to x86-compatible CPUs in the same range of power consumption. With which processors Nvidia compared, it is not specified.

Nvidia says its Grace CPU Superchip is twice as fast as x86-compatible processors for the same power consumption

The company says these figures mean data centers can handle twice as much peak traffic for the same power consumption if they switch to Grace. Or they can cut their energy bills by almost half while maintaining productivity.

Nvidia itself says that Grace provides such results thanks to three main factors. Firstly, these are 72 Arm Neoverse V2 cores in one CPU (Grace CPU Superchip, we recall, contains two CPUs on one board), and secondly, in fact, the combination of two such CPUs via the NVLink-C2C interface with a bandwidth of 900 GB / s , third, the use of server-class LPDDR5X memory.
