Nvidia will pay partners to drop the GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB. The company compensates the cost of cardboard boxes that will have to be destroyed

Nvidia is compensating its partners for the cost of cardboard boxes for already produced GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB graphics cards. On Friday, the company announced that it was canceling the launch of this 3D accelerator due to an “inappropriate name,” even though Nvidia’s partners had everything ready. Now graphics card manufacturers working with Nvidia need to collect the packaging and dispose of it, but the video cards themselves will most likely still go on sale, but with a different name and in different boxes.

Even before the announcement, it was assumed that the third card in the series would be the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti or GeForce RTX 4070, although Nvidia for some reason decided to introduce two RTX 4080s – with 16 and 12 GB of memory. Now the 12GB versions are likely to be renamed, although this process will not be easy either: you will have to supply all the already produced video cards with new stickers, put new designations on the circuit board and, probably, reflash.

The Ryzen 9 7900X has only been on sale for a couple of months, but the processor has already dropped significantly in the US. If at the start of sales they asked for $ 550 for it, then a few days ago the cost dropped to $ 473. And now the CPU has become even more accessible.

The latest 12-core processor Ryzen 9 7900X has fallen in price to a minimum in the US

You can buy the Ryzen 9 7900X from Amazon in the US for $440. Thus, after just two months from the start of sales, the CPU became more affordable by 20%.

Recall that the Ryzen 9 7900X operates at a frequency of 4.7-5.6 GHz and has 76 MB of cache, and a TDP of 230 watts. The discount is very good, but when buying a Ryzen 7000, you need to keep in mind the need for a fresh motherboard with an AM5 processor socket, as well as DDR5 memory.

The heart of the novelty is the mobile Core i9-12900H. For such a PC in the form of a Barebone-kit, they ask for $680, but now you can buy it for $570. Since we are talking about not the most energy efficient CPU, the cooling system here includes a radiator with three heat pipes.

The new PC also stands out with a fairly extensive set of ports. There is USB 3.2 (x3), USB-C 3.2 (x3), USB 2.0 (x2), HDMI (x2) and RJ45. With dimensions of 208 x 180 x 66 mm, this is a very worthy set.

The mini PC allows you to install two 2.5-inch drives, one M.2 format, and a pair of DDR4 SO-DIMMs. The base version with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage will now cost $680.

Nvidia has released a fresh driver for older GeForce 600 and GeForce 700 video cards. Support for these adapters has long been discontinued, so the new driver is only intended to fix important vulnerabilities.

Nvidia has released a fresh driver for graphics cards that were released 10 years ago. But in games performance will not improve

More specifically, we are talking about two vulnerabilities CVE-2022-3602 and CVE-2022-3786 that affected mail servers and open source VPN protocols such as OpenVPN.

Unfortunately, the latest driver will not improve the performance of older video cards, as support was discontinued over a year ago.

However, some adapters of those times are still quite good for modern games, given their age. For example, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti is capable of about 70-80 fps in Full HD in GTA V at maximum graphics quality settings, and even provides about 60 fps in The Witcher 3 at high settings.
