Nvidia has unveiled the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti for $ 1200 and the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti for $ 600. But will we see such prices?

As expected, Nvidia today officially unveiled the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards. The first provides performance comparable to the flagship GeForce RTX 3090, but at the same time much cheaper: its official cost is only $ 1,200. But due to the shortage formed on the market, we are unlikely to see a novelty at such a price.

Despite the name, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is much closer to the GeForce RTX 3090 than to the regular GeForce RTX 3080. It has 80 compute units, 10,240 CUDA cores, 80 Ray Tracing cores, and 320 Tensor cores. The GPU runs at 1665 MHz (this is the maximum for the Founders Edition, but factory overclocked partnerships will be slightly faster). 12 GB GDDR6X memory: half the size of the RTX 3090, but 2 GB more than the regular RTX 3080. The memory bus width is 320 bits, the bandwidth is 912 GB / s. Miners would probably like to use such a model for Ethereum mining, but because of the built-in protection, there is not much point: Radeon RX 6800 XT or GeForce RTX 3070 will provide greater performance. However, the protection mechanism works only for Ethereum and does not apply to other cryptocurrencies. The TDP of the new items is the same 350 W as that of the GeForce RTX 3090 (a new 12-pin connector is used to supply power, but there is an adapter in the kit), while the TDP of the RTX 3080 is 320 W.

According to Nvidia, the performance of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is one and a half times that of the previous generation flagship, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. The widespread sales of new items will start on June 3.

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti differs from the usual RTX 3070 less than the RTX 3080 Ti from the RTX 3080, but the price premium is also lower here: the video card is estimated at $ 600. This is official, and the real cost, given the current market situation, can be safely multiplied by three.

At the heart of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is a fully featured GA104 GPU with 6144 CUDA cores and GDDR6X memory. But the amount of memory is the same as that of the regular RTX 3070. The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will go on sale on June 10th.

It’s no secret that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards need powerful power supplies, but official recommendations from Nvidia partners vary.

Some manufacturers follow Nvidia’s recommendations for a standard 850W PSU, but many manufacturers list 1000W PSUs as recommended, some even insist on a 1200W PSU.

Asus recommends a 1000W PSU for its ROG Strix graphics card. Asus suggests this because the company assumes that users will be overclocking both the CPU and the GPU. The Gigabyte Aorus Master and Zotac AMP Extreme/Trinity RTX 4090 graphics cards have the same power supply recommendation of 1000W.

MSI, PNY, Galax, and Inno3D recommend an 850W PSU. However, Palit recommends using up to 1200W power supply for its RTX 4090 GameRock graphics card, which is the most stringent requirement among graphics card manufacturers today.

Today we already wrote that the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card can consume more than 600 watts without any extreme overclocking. And when using the most powerful processors and overclocking, the power of the entire system will be much higher.

The results of testing new items in Furmark have already appeared on the Web. In the msi-01 base test, the GPU frequency reached 3 GHz, and the power consumption was 426 W, but in the notorious Donut test, the frequency, although significantly lower (2.64 GHz), consumed the card almost 616 W! This test loads 3D cards much more heavily, which, as we can see, has a noticeable effect on power consumption.

In this case, the tests were carried out with a liquid cooler and, judging by the core frequency, in overclocking. Of course, without overclocking and in games, the consumption of the RTX 4090 will never reach what we see in the Donut test, but at the same time, such results mean that this is far from the limit for the adapter, and consumption during extreme overclocking can only be imagined .

If we talk about top-end graphics cards with 384-bit bus, 36 GHz memory will provide 1.7 GB / s bandwidth! Probably, this will significantly speed up the new generation of 3D maps, even without taking into account new GPUs.
