Rumors that Nvidia will have a GeForce RTX 3060 with hardware protection against mining can be said to have been officially confirmed. The company has released a graphics driver GeForce 466.27, the description of which contains a direct indication of the new version of the budget (as conceived) model.

The driver description clearly states that it has updated the mechanism for limiting the performance when mining cryptocurrencies using the GeForce RTX 3060, and the software itself is intended for video cards, which will start shipping in mid-May. Obviously, we are talking about the new GeForce RTX 3060 on GPU GA106-302 with hardware protection against mining. The point is that they have a new PCI Device ID – 2504. And this innovation is reflected in the driver as well. Thus, in addition to the internal hardware limitations, the new GeForce RTX 3060 also has a software limitation set at the software level. The new GeForce RTX 3060 will not work with old drivers, in which the performance limitation for mining cryptocurrencies was either easily circumvented or absent altogether.

Nvidia has confirmed the new GeForce RTX 3060 with hardware mining protection. Its deliveries will begin in mid-May.

In general, the times are not very good for cryptocurrency miners – Nvidia is demonstrating its commitment to the ideas of gaming, not mining. Miners will have to turn their sights on the CMP HX line models, but that will only be in a few weeks. In the meantime, there is still time to stock up on the “old” GeForce RTX 3060.
