Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 mobile graphics card will be available in a dozen varieties
Next week, the announcement of Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 Mobile mobile video cards based on Ampere architecture is expected. According to preliminary data, three models will be presented: RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060. But they will be offered in several variants with different TDP.
The source clarified and supplemented information on the GeForce RTX 3080 Mobile card. It is the flagship model based on GA104 GPU in full configuration with 6144 CUDA cores. That’s well below the 8704 cores for the desktop RTX 3080, but still more than the 5888 cores for the desktop RTX 3070 on the GA104 processor. As such, it’s safe to assume that the desktop and mobile variants of the RTX 3080 will differ in performance.
The GeForce RTX 3080 Mobile model will be released in two main variants: Max-P with a TDP of 150W and Max-Q with a TDP of 90W. The Max-P variant is expected to have a base frequency of 1110 MHz and an overclocking frequency of 1545 MHz, while the Max-Q variant will have these frequencies equal to 780 MHz and 1245 MHz, respectively. The source clarifies that these are the default values as both options will be further configured by laptop manufacturers to provide intermediate options with TDPs of 80W, 115W, 125W, etc. This, in particular, will not allow counting on a certain level of performance if only the model of the video card is indicated in the specifications of the laptop, and not specific values of TDP or frequencies.
As for the memory, the Max-Q variant, according to preliminary information, received a memory operating at a speed of 12 Gb / s. There is no information about Max-P memory yet. Presumably, its speed will be 14 Gbps.
Additional variety is made by the possibility of completing the card with 8 or 16 GB of memory. Taking into account all of these “degrees of freedom”, there may be up to 10 different variants of the RTX 3080 Mobile available on the market.
