Yesterday we learned that Nvidia quietly lowered its G-Sync Ultimate monitor requirements. In particular, if earlier such a certificate was issued exclusively to models with the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certificate, then a couple of new models could no longer boast of such.
Nvidia decided to react to the situation and explained everything.
Late last year, we updated G-Sync Ultimate to include new display technologies such as OLED and side-lit LCDs. All G-Sync Ultimate displays are powered by advanced Nvidia G-Sync processors that deliver fantastic gameplay including lifelike HDR, stunning contract, cinematic color reproduction, and ultra-low latency gameplay. While the original G-Sync Ultimate displays had a brightness of 1000 cd / m2 with FALD (Full Array Direct) backlighting, newer displays such as OLED provide infinite contrast at just 600-700 cd / m2, and advanced multi-zone displays side illumination offer remarkable contrast at the same brightness. G-Sync Ultimate was never defined solely by brightness and did not require VESA DisplayHDR1000 certification.
The ACER X34 S monitor has been mistakenly listed as G-Sync Ultimate on Nvidia’s website. It should be listed as “G-Sync” and this will be fixed.
As you can see, on the one hand, there was an error for one of the new models, on the other, Nvidia explains that the G-Sync Ultimate certificate can be issued without the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certificate.
No cheap Radeon RX 7900? In China, orders for these video cards are placed with a markup of $ 200-500 over the recommended price.
Officially, sales of the latest flagship AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics cards will start in a week, but pre-orders have already begun to be issued in China. Local residents did not see the recommended prices.
Recall that the recommended price for the reference Radeon RX 7900 XTX for China is 8,000 yuan ($1,140), the Radeon RX 7900 XT is 7,400 yuan ($1,055). What’s in reality? The semi-clones of the reference PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT of the Hellhound family, which we wrote about today, are available for order on the Taobao site at a price of 9788 and 8688 yuan, respectively (1395 and 1235 dollars). That is, if we talk about even the basic models, then the markup is 255 and 180 dollars.
Top solutions are even more expensive: the non-reference (and obviously overclocked) PowerColor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil is priced at 11,399 yuan ($1,625), which is already $485 more than the recommended retail price.
But this is not the limit: in another store, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is offered for 12,999 yuan ($1,850), and the Radeon 7900 XT is offered for 8,999 yuan ($1,425).
The situation in the Chinese market is not particularly different from the situation in other countries, so we can think that both in Europe and in the US, the Radeon RX 7900 will be offered at a higher price than the recommended price. Even if we are talking about reference solutions.
Xiaomi enters the desktop PC market. The company is preparing two mini PCs, one of which will be based on the Ryzen 7 6800U
It seems that Xiaomi has decided not to stop at laptops and is preparing to introduce its first desktop PC.
The Network got data about two Xiaomi computers at once, and in both cases we are talking about a mini-PC. The first one will be called Mini Host. It was supposed to be presented yesterday, but the corresponding event was postponed.
Little is known so far. In particular, the dimensions of the case are such that a mini-ITX motherboard can fit there. There is also a 100W power supply, which may hint at the approximate capabilities of the novelty, but not the fact that there will not be more powerful versions.
But more is known about the second mini-PC. While we do not know its name, but it will be a solution in the SFF form factor, ostensibly aimed at the OEM segment. This PC is based on a Ryzen 7 6800U with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Such a PC will ask for $570.
Video card resellers are in a quandary due to poor demand for the GeForce RTX 4080
The GeForce RTX 4090 video card, despite the considerable price, is in great demand. As stated by Nvidia itself, in fact, almost all stock was sold out in the first two weeks. But with the RTX 4080, the situation did not repeat itself, and, as it turned out, resellers were burned.
The speculators who bought the RTX 4080 in the early days, expecting a repeat of the situation with the RTX 4090 and wanting to cash in on the rush demand, have already realized that everything is different with the junior card, and now they have to actively offer their adapters on various marketplaces and social networks. They offer cards at a price very close to the recommended price, but the demand is still very small.
Interestingly, in the US, major retailer NewEgg has temporarily canceled RTX 4080 returns, so resellers can’t just return the cards to the store, exacerbating their problem. This can lead to the fact that, as a result, resellers will have to fight for buyers, reducing prices already below the recommended ones.
Recall that the RTX 4080 was considered very overpriced by most thematic resources. It surpasses the RTX 3080 in performance by about 50%, but is more than 70% more expensive at the start.
