Nokia admits its failure with Android updates and explains why it happened
In 2017, new smartphones Nokia 8, Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 appeared on the market, which ran on a pure Android operating system and quickly became popular. The company was quicker than most of its competitors to update its devices to Android 10, but the situation changed with the release of Android 11. HMD Global was ranked 10th in terms of Android update rate in early 2021, while in early 2020 it was in 4th place.
In an interview with Android Authority, HMD Marketing Director Stephan Taylor admitted that the company screwed up with Android 11 and also explained why it happened. The main reason was that Nokia did not participate in the Android 11 beta testing program. Participation in the process helps OEMs to release updates to the Android version before the stable version is released. In addition, the growing lineup of smartphones has become another obstacle to the prompt release of updates.
When asked if the company got too carried away with expanding its product line, which eventually had to be updated, Stephen Taylor commented: “Honestly, I think your observation is true. We haven’t had much success with the release of Android 11, but I think we’ve learned from that. “
He added that HMD Global drew conclusions and initially participated in the Android 12 beta testing program. Proof of this is the swift release of Android 12 for the Nokia X20 and Nokia G50.
So yeah, I’m disappointed with how we did it with Android 11, but I think we’ll be back on the front lines again.

A Windows tablet with an unusual design. Dell prepares XPS 9315t model

Dell is preparing a new mobile PC family XPS. Most likely, it will be called a hybrid laptop, as it is now accepted, but in fact it is a tablet.
The XPS 9315t model allows you to connect a keyboard case, but this device does not make a laptop.
Be that as it may, it is known that the novelty will receive a 13-inch screen and will run Windows. You can also see a relatively thick for a regular tablet, but normal for a Windows tablet, a metal case, a protruding single camera and a slot, apparently, for a SIM card. The case received slightly beveled edges, which, together with the camera module, makes the design of the tablet very atypical.
There are no data on the parameters, but it can be assumed that Dell will opt for Intel Alder Lake processors.
The source says that Dell has been working on the device since last year and will unveil it soon.

Xiaomi showed a compact e-reader with an E Ink screen and Android

Xiaomi has released an updated version of the compact reader with an e-ink screen – the Moaan InkPalm Plus model. This device is almost the same size as a regular smartphone, but offers all the basic functions of an E Ink reader, combined with powerful hardware.
The novelty is an improved version of the usual InkPalm reader. The new model is equipped with a 5.84-inch black and white display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels, backlight with 24 levels of brightness and support for color temperature adjustment. Separately, we note the support for multitouch.
Inside is a Rockchip RK3566 quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal flash memory. Such a chip is usually used in “smart” set-top boxes and other devices of this class. Also, the novelty received a battery with a capacity of 2200 mAh, which is enough for 30 days of operation or about 6000 flips. Charging takes about 2.5 hours.
From wireless communications, we note the presence of Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 adapters. There is no modem and cellular support in the device.
Android is used as the OS, which allows you to install any reader programs, as well as, in principle, any applications for the Google operating system. Although, of course, video players and games on the device are not needed, because the E Ink screen is rather slow to update.
The Xiaomi Moaan InkPalm Plus pre-order price is $165 in China. There is no data on the release date and price of the international version yet.

Windows 11 will have an easy way to restore all applications on a new PC

Microsoft has finally announced the imminent arrival of support for the app restore feature in the Microsoft Store in the Windows 11 operating system.
The software maker will soon begin testing a new feature that allows you to restore apps on a new Windows 11 PC. Currently, the Microsoft Store does not offer an automatic way to restore apps, instead forcing Windows users to manually install apps from the library.
Microsoft Store General Manager Giorgio Sardo said:
To make it easier for customers to migrate to new PCs quickly and seamlessly, we’ll soon be testing a new feature in the Windows Insider channel that will help customers automatically restore their previously installed apps from the Microsoft Store to a new Windows device.
Restoring applications will be especially useful for users who frequently change computers, or for developers who regularly use virtual machines and multiple devices. Previously, Windows users had to rely on third-party package managers to perform these kinds of tasks.
