At the beginning of the month, AMD introduced the Ryzen 6000 mobile processors, which are the first in the world to receive the Microsoft Pluton integrated security processor.
Against this background, fears appeared on the Web that through this decision, users will be forced to switch to Windows 11, since the latest laptops simply will not work with other operating systems. However, this will not happen.
As it became known, there will be no binding to the operating system. Notebooks with Pluton will be able to work with Linux without problems, and manufacturers and even users themselves will be able to disable this processor in the BIOS.
AMD respects user choice, and as is common with many other security technologies, we provide the user with the ability to enable or disable Pluton based on their preferences in our reference BIOS.
Lenovo has even stated that Pluton will be disabled by default on ThinkPad laptops.
The latest Intel Alder Lake processors do not have a negotiated Microsoft solution, but there is an analogue developed by Intel itself called Intel Platform Trust Technology. True, Pluton itself was developed by Microsoft, including with the support of Intel, so perhaps this solution will appear in future CPU Cores.
