“No Mars spacecraft has ever captured a view like this before”: NASA Odyssey captured stunning photos of the Mars horizon

The American Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA shared the latest news from Mars. NASA’s Odyssey orbiter captured an unusual view of the Mars horizon with its camera. The department itself called the resulting photos “stunning.”

“No Mars spacecraft has ever captured a view like this before”: NASA Odyssey captured stunning photos of the Mars horizon

The images were taken from an altitude of approximately 400 kilometers above the surface of Mars – approximately the same altitude at which the International Space Station orbits the Earth. NASA said:

The Odyssey orbiter captured clouds and dust in the sky of the Red Planet, as well as one of its two tiny moons.

The spacecraft captured a series of panoramic images showing the curved Martian landscape beneath transparent layers of clouds and dust. As noted by NASA, ten images stitched one after another not only offer a fresh and stunning view of Mars, but will also help scientists gain new insight into the Martian atmosphere.

Jonathon Hill from Arizona State University explained:

If there were astronauts in orbit around Mars, they would see just such a perspective. No Mars spacecraft had ever captured this view before.

The reason this species is so unusual is the difficulty involved in creating it. Engineers at the mission and Lockheed Martin Space, which built Odyssey, spent three months planning the THEMIS observations. The infrared camera’s sensitivity to heat allows it to image ice, rock, sand and dust, as well as temperature changes on the planet’s surface.

In October 2023, NASA Odyssey marked 22 years since its arrival at Mars in 2001.

Its high time to retire Peugeot Pars Peugeot 405 discontinued

Iran Khodro (IKCO) has discontinued production of the Peugeot Pars sedan (restyled Peugeot 405), as reported by the insider telegram channel “Autopotok”.

The “farewell” took place ahead of schedule (Pars was originally planned to be discontinued in April). The discontinuation of production is due not only to the obsolescence of the model and the physical obsolescence of die equipment, but also to the tightening of certification requirements for new cars in Iran.

It's high time to retire. Peugeot Pars (Peugeot 405) discontinued

The fact is that from this year all new cars in Iran must have an ESP system, a gear shift indicator, a tire pressure sensor, and daytime running lights. IKCO considered that it was not economically feasible to implement these functions in Pars.

Peugeot Pars were produced for almost 24 years, with production in Iran starting a few years after the assembly of the original model ceased: the Peugeot 405 was produced in France in 1987-1997.

The platform and frame elements of this model are used in the more modern IKCO Soren+ model, the production of which will be increased.

The Energizer P28K smartphone will not run out of charge

Avenir Telecom presented the Energizer P28K smartphone at the MWC 2024 congress. It is no coincidence that the model was released under the brand of an “undying” battery: it received a powerful battery with a capacity of 28,000 mAh. The manufacturer claims that the smartphone can not be charged for a whole week even with active use, and in standby mode it can last more than 90 days. True, we had to say goodbye to compactness: the Energizer P28K is 27.8 mm thick and weighs 570 g. Thanks to support for 33-watt fast charging, the device will be fully charged in an hour and a half, its creators say.

As for the characteristics, they allow us to classify the device rather as an entry-level one: it is SoC MediaTek MT6789, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory, 6.78-inch LCD touch display with a resolution of 1080p. The smartphone does not support 5G networks; it runs Android 14 OS. And if the characteristics did not become the strong point of the Energizer P28K, then its advantages include the IP69 protection class. This means that the smartphone is completely dust- and waterproof and can even withstand exposure to hot water under high pressure.

It will be most convenient to use the Energizer P28K on long trips and extreme conditions – both its durability and high-capacity battery will come in handy there. True, the release of the new product on the market is expected only in October of this year, its cost will be 249.99 euros, but in the meantime you can place a pre-order. The device will be available in various countries around the world, with the exception of the USA.
