Nintendo has reported for the first quarter of its 2021 fiscal year. In particular, the Japanese manufacturer shared its sales success for the Nintendo Switch game console.
Nintendo managed to sell 4.45 million Switch units during the quarter, down 1.2 million units from the same quarter a year ago. However, the number of consoles sold throughout the life of the consoles now stands at 89.04 million.
Thus, Nintendo can boast that Nintendo Switch has overtaken Sony PlayStation 3 (sold 87.4 million) and Microsoft Xbox 360 (sold over 80 million) in terms of total sales. The PlayStation 2 remains the best-selling console of all time, with over 155 million units sold.
Nvidia’s “magical” DLSS technology is going mainstream. It became available in 28 new games
Nvidia’s fresh graphics driver released yesterday has brought DLSS support to many games. The list was replenished with 28 projects at once, and the total number of games with DLSS exceeded 100. Apparently, this is the largest update of the DLSS games database.
Most of those 28 games have DLSS support thanks to the Unreal Engine 4 plugin, which makes it easy to add technology to games.
This time, Nvidia doesn’t even list all the games that have received DLSS support. But Alan Wake Remastered can be noted, for which there is also a performance diagram. As you can see, DLSS can achieve over 60 fps in 4K UHD even on the GeForce RTX 2060.
To the delight of gamers. AUO unveils 85-inch 4K panel with 240Hz frame rate
AUO has introduced a large screen that is clearly aimed at gamers – both PC and console users. The novelty is characterized by a diagonal of 85 inches and a frame rate of 240 Hz. Even the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, for all their power, are not capable of delivering 4K at this frame rate, so the screen (and TVs based on it) is ready for the next generation consoles.
The panel has reportedly already received an award from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China as Best Innovative Product of 2021. There are no particular details about the characteristics: it only talks about support for HDR technology, advanced anti-glare technology and coverage of 96% of the DCI-P3 color space. TVs based on the new panel are likely to be equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports (and maybe DisplayPort 2.0), but when their mass production will be launched, it has not been reported.
Intel hires AMD veterans and game developers
Intel continues to strengthen its graphics division as it prepares to bring the first true gaming graphics cards to market in the company’s modern history. And recently Intel got a number of good specialists.
Among them are not only engineers, but also, interestingly, game industry professionals.
This is Andre Bermer, a 20-year veteran of the gaming industry. He has worked for EA Games, LucasArt, Zynga, Prime Gaming and Amazon.
Michael Heilemann, who has worked at EA Games, Vivendi, Dreamworks and Sony, also joined Intel. Another new member of the team is Steve Bell. He spent 13 years at AMD and was the senior director of game development relations. Also worth mentioning is Ritche Corpus, who has been part of the AMD team for 15 years, including as head of gaming and professional software.
Of course, the appearance of game developers on the Intel team does not mean that the company is going to create games itself. But it points to Intel’s serious intentions regarding graphics cards.
