Here’s Why Coruscant Wasn’t Destroyed In Star Wars

Published

on

Several years have passed since the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in December 2015. Since then, water has flowed under the bridge. However, fans of the intergalactic saga will certainly always remember the highlights of the film.

One thinks in particular of the destruction of Hosnian Prime. This planet had been destroyed by the Starkiller Base, a superweapon belonging to the First Order. Hosnian Prime lay between Duro and Kelada, along the Corellian Trade Lane.

But did you know that this planet was not originally supposed to disappear in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”?

Lucasfilm spared Coruscant

Thanks to an article recently published by the site Slash Movie, we learn that it is in fact Coruscant that was to be destroyed instead of Hosnian Prime. This information was disclosed by Pablo Hidalgo, the director of Lucasfilm, on Twitter. The tweet containing this revelation has since been deleted.

According to Pablo Hidalgo, director JJ Abrams wanted the First Order to destroy Coruscant in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Nonetheless, Lucasfilm reportedly disagreed with the decision.

“Hosnian Prime was the middle ground”, said Pablo Hidalgo.

For the future of Star Wars

Coruscant is a very important planet in the Star Wars franchise. She made her debut in 1999’s “The Phantom Menace.” It is on Coruscant that we find the Jedi Temple. And it is also the planet that houses the capital of the Galactic Republic. After the conflict between the Jedi Order and the Sith, Coruscant has become an uncrowded place.

Despite this, Lucasfilm reportedly wanted to spare the planet, as it had other plans for it. Indeed, the studio was still planning to include Coruscant in other projects. Note that Coruscant was originally meant to appear in “Duel of the Fates.” Indeed, the planet had been included in the original script by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow. On the other hand, Lucasfilm would have thought fans of the franchise would have had a hard time digesting the destruction of Coruscant.

The studio probably wanted to avoid making the same mistake it did with “The Last Jedi.” »
