Today Xiaomi will present many new products, including the Mi Band 6 fitness bracelet. But even before the announcement, we had the opportunity to look at the new product live – the photo appeared on the Weibo social network.
The image clearly demonstrates the most obvious innovation of the Mi Band 6 – a display with minimal bezels. The screen with improved graphics now occupies almost the entire area of the front panel. The schematic diagram below allows you to better understand how much the Mi Band 6 screen is larger than the Mi Band 5 screen.
Something is already known about the characteristics of the Mi Band 6. The fitness bracelet retained the NFC adapter, received a GPS receiver and a blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) sensor. Also promised new training modes (there will be about 30 in total) and integration with Telegram and WhatsApp. As for the price, it should remain at the same price as the Mi Band 5.

It seems that today the “conspiracy” of smart watch manufacturers was accidentally revealed. Of course, there is no real conspiracy, but still, many manufacturers of such devices, as it turned out, are cunning or even outright lying about some of the specifications of their products.
We are talking about weight and size indicators. The author of the channel DC Rainmaker found that Samsung very much underestimates the thickness and weight of the new Watch5. As a result, it turned out that not only Samsung does this.
But let’s start with her. According to the company’s website, the 44mm version of the Watch5 is supposed to be 9.8mm thick and weigh 33.5g. In fact, the watch weighs 55g and the case is 13mm thick! The Watch5 Pro is supposedly 10.5 mm thick, but in fact it is almost 50% larger (15.1 mm)!
Interestingly, if you remove the strap, then the mass of the watch itself will turn out to be exactly the same as it is indicated on the site. That is, we can say that in this case, Samsung is not lying. Moreover, the site has a postscript stating that the mass does not take into account the strap, but why would anyone need a mass of watches without a strap? In addition, such a focus will no longer work with the thickness – it is simply indicated incorrectly.
But the highlight is that the author decided to check the watches of other brands, and it turned out that this is the norm. In particular, Apple, Garmin and Polar also underestimate the thickness of their watches, which seems to be the norm. Although there are exceptions: Fitbit and Wahoo indicate the parameters correctly. It seems that companies just measure the thickness each in their own way. For example, Samsung apparently measures only the thickness of the side edge, while Apple and Garmin do not take into account the lower protrusion with sensors. A similar situation has long been the norm in the car market: automakers measure the clearance as they want, and it very rarely corresponds to the actual minimum distance from the lowest point of the car (excluding wheels) to the road.

Today, the flagship smartwatch Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro, which was introduced last week, arrives in China.
The watch screen is a round 1.47-inch AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels. There is also an Always On Display feature. The case is waterproof (up to 5 ATM), and the screen is covered with sapphire crystal.
The 500 mAh battery in the Watch S1 Pro will provide up to 14 days of standard use, but it should be understood that when using Always On Display, the battery life is reduced to five days. A 10-minute charge will allow the watch to work for two days. The watch will be fully charged in about 85 minutes.
Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro is equipped with GPS and NFC modules, as well as Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi. The watch offers heart rate monitoring, a pulse oximeter, calories burned, steps taken, or a 24-hour stress monitor.
Also, users are waiting for 117 different sports modes and the function of making voice calls via Bluetooth using a noise reduction algorithm during a call. The watch can also control devices at home, such as turning on the lights or changing the volume of the TV.
They are offered for about $220.
In the future, Apple may release iPhone and Watch with cases made of ceramic and zirconium. But they are sure to be expensive.
The iPhone 14 will be announced soon, but new data about models that will be released in a year or two appears on the network. According to a new patent, Apple is considering ceramic as a possible case material for future iPhones and Apple Watches. At the same time, the surface of such cases will be covered with zirconium, which will make it matte and increase strength.
It is speculated that a zirconia coating could be used on the back of the iPhone, making it stronger yet lighter. It will also protect smartphones from scratches, chips when dropped, and so on.
Zirconium meets all the requirements, but it has one serious drawback – the cost. Thus, the future iPhone and Apple Watch may be even more expensive, and solely due to the case material.
It is possible that Cupertino will not use pure zirconium, but will add it to aluminum and steel alloys for the case, which will increase their strength.
Note that earlier Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 and Galaxy S10 + Performance Edition already had ceramic cases, but these were expensive and premium smartphones released in small batches. It is not yet clear how Apple plans to release millions of smartphones with such cases. Perhaps only Pro / Pro Max models will receive them to emphasize their premium status.
It’s also worth noting that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 come with displays that come with Ceramic Shield protection, making them more resistant to damage.
