New milestone for SpaceX: 200th successful launch using a reused booster

Published

on

The rocket’s first stage will make its 17th flight and is scheduled to return to the Just Read the Instructions platform in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the Space Launch Delta 45 weather service, a 95% chance of good weather conditions is predicted. If the launch is delayed by 24 hours, the probability will drop to 90%, and within a three-hour window – to 80%.

This will be the 200th time SpaceX has used the previously used booster on the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets. If the launch is successful and the stage can be landed, this will be the 228th successful return.

The successful launch will be the 266th overall since the first successful Falcon 9 launch in 2008 and the 67th this year at Cape Canaveral sites in California. The workhorse Falcon 9 began its flight period in 2010 and has not experienced a launch failure since 2015.

This will be the spaceport’s 51st launch this year, approaching the record 57 launches set in 2022. SpaceX has completed all but three launches this year, although United Launch Alliance, which made only its second flight this month, is preparing for a third launch soon and plans to launch a new Vulcan Centaur rocket before the end of the year.

SpaceX has more launches planned for the Falcon 9, as well as the next Falcon Heavy launch on October 5 with a mission for NASA to send the Psyche probe on a multi-year mission to an asteroid, also named Psyche, that orbits between Mars and Jupiter.

The only other venture to launch from this spaceport was Relativity Space in March with their 3D printed Terran 1 rocket.

Worlds Largest Auto Workers Strike Costs General Motors 93 Billion

General Motors said its agreements with striking UAW and Canadian Unifor unions would increase costs by $9.3 billion through 2028. The company also announced a $10 billion share repurchase.

These data were announced after the signing of a new contract with the UAW, ratified earlier in November by a majority of 54.7% of the vote. The contract includes a 25 percent wage increase and future job security for union workers as they transition into electric vehicle production. The additional costs are about $575 per vehicle on top of the contract, which expires in 2028.

On Wednesday, November 29, GM said the six-week UAW strike had impacted its business, with earnings before interest and taxes estimated at $1.1 billion.

“We are finalizing a 2024 budget that fully offsets the additional costs of our new labor agreements, and the long-term plan we are executing includes reducing the capital intensity of the business, developing products even more efficiently and further reducing our fixed and variable costs,” she said. CEO Mary Barra said in a statement. “With this clear path forward and our strong balance sheet, we will return significant capital to shareholders.”

The American automaker plans to immediately repurchase and retire $6.8 billion of its common stock as part of a $10 billion buyback program. The remainder of the buybacks will occur before 2024.

GM also announced a 33 percent increase in its common stock dividend, from 9 cents to 12 cents per quarter. The increase is expected to take effect in early 2024.
