New iPhone SE will get a 4.7-inch screen, and a 6.1-inch model with a hole in the display will appear later

Ross Young, founder of research companies Display Supply Chain Consultants and DisplaySearch, said the next-gen iPhone SE, due to launch in 2022, will have the same 4.7-inch display as the current version.

The existing iPhone SE is modeled after the iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch display. There were rumors that Apple is working on an iPhone SE Plus, which could come out this year, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in March that the new iPhone in the SE family would not be available until 2022.

Ross Young confirms that there is no need to wait for the new iPhone SE this year. It will appear in 2022 with minor changes, while more radical design changes are expected in 2023. Apple is reportedly working on a 6.1-inch version of the iPhone SE that has a hole for the front camera. Apple is rumored to be planning to add a hole to its 2022 flagship models.

The hole in the screen has been actively used in the Android world over the past years to maximize the available display area. On Apple devices, a flush-mounted front camera will eliminate bangs.

The iPhone SE, due out in 2022, will receive an upgraded SoC and support for 5G, which Young said could be limited to below 6GHz.
