One of the users of the famous American forum Reddit discovered an interesting bug in Windows 11: the OS displays the battery charge of the laptop more than 100%. For example, 103% – as in the screenshot. For some, the charge reaches 104%.

Naturally, this is physically impossible, the matter is in the incorrect display of the charge level. What is the problem is still unclear, but dozens of users have encountered it. Such a bug does not interfere with the normal operation of the laptop, however, there are doubts about the correct operation of the laptop battery indicator in Windows 11 in principle. Microsoft has already said it is aware of the problem and is investigating the cause of it. Obviously, the corresponding patch will not be long in coming.

Acer has launched the world’s lightest 16-inch laptop. Acer Swift Edge was shown a couple of months ago, but now it has become known that the novelty has appeared on sale at a price of $ 1,500.

Acer Swift Edge really impresses with its weight. With a 16-inch screen, the laptop weighs only 1.1 kg! This is not much even for 13-inch models, let alone 16-inch models.

To achieve such a mass, Acer came out, including through the use of an aluminum-magnesium alloy and not the largest battery. It here has a capacity of 54 Wh, which is quite small for a 16-inch model. But this supposedly should be enough for 10 hours of work, according to Acer itself.

But low weight is not all that a laptop can please. First, it also has a 4K UHD OLED screen. Secondly, the Ryzen 6000U processors serve as the heart, which are not only very productive, but also offer very powerful iGPUs.

From the rest, you can note RAM up to 32 GB, SSD up to 1 TB, a pair of USB-C 3.2 Gen2 ports with support for DisplayPort and USB Power Delivery, HDMI 2.1, two USB 3.2 connectors, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

For those same $ 1,500, a far from the most basic version with a Ryzen 7 6800U, 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD is already available. That is, modifications with the Ryzen 5 6600U will be even cheaper, but there are no prices yet.

The Linux kernel 6.0 was recently released and version 6.1 is scheduled to be released soon. However, many users have not switched to it yet. And, as it turned out, one of the old kernels has a problem that affects the video subsystem. It can physically damage the display. This concerns the Linux kernel 5.19.12, but in version 5.19.13 the problem was solved.

Linux has become dangerous - one of the cores of the system can physically disable the laptop display, although not on all models

The failure only affected laptops with Intel processors that were running a distribution based on the Linux 5.19.12 kernel. The problem seemed to be related to the Intel graphics driver, which caused the display to flash rapidly in white. One of the engineers who is involved in the development of the core of the system explained that it was an incorrect delay in powering up the LCD panel. Because of this, the display could fail, because it is simply not designed to work in this mode for a long time.

It is noted that the problem manifested itself on laptops, where the screens were directly connected to the integrated video core. It was also relevant for models with Nvidia Optimus and some models with Radeon graphics (if available).

It is noted that laptops with AMD processors, conventional and hybrid, are not affected by this problem. Also, the developers advised not to install the “problem” update for those who have not had time to update.

And earlier it became known about a new problem with Windows 11 22H2.
