New Apple 5K Studio Display now supports Windows via Boot Camp

Published

on

Apple recently announced its new 27-inch Apple 5K Studio Display, which has a peak brightness of 600 cd/m2equipped with a single-chip Apple A13 Bionic system and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle front camera.

The display originally supported macOS computers via Thunderbolt, and now Apple has updated Boot Camp with built-in Windows support that works on Macs too. As a reminder, Boot Camp is Apple’s native solution for running Windows on Macs. The update upgrades Boot Camp to version 61.1.17 and adds support for the new Studio Display when using Windows through Boot Camp. It also includes updated drivers for AMD and Intel GPUs.

It’s important to note that there are still a few limitations to be aware of when using Studio Display with Windows. An important camera feature that won’t work on a Windows PC is the Center Stage. On a Mac, this feature uses digital zoom to keep the subject or subjects in frame even as they move. Other features supported by the Apple A13, such as Spatial Audio and Hey Siri, are also not available on Windows.

It’s also worth mentioning that Boot Camp only works on Intel-based Macs.

Paid apps in Huawei AppGallery can be downloaded completely free of charge: Huawei has not yet responded

Paid apps in Huawei AppGallery can be downloaded completely free

Since Huawei was under US sanctions, Huawei has been forced to switch to its own software solutions as it is banned from using Google services. One of them is the AppGallery app store, which has become a replacement for Google Play.

AppGallery has a pretty serious issue that one developer says has remained unresolved for months, even though he reported it to Huawei back in February. This vulnerability allows anyone with a little bit of technical skill, some free time, and a bit of inclination to put in a little effort to download and install any paid app from AppGallery without paying for it. Of course, for developers who support Huawei by releasing their apps in the AppGallery, this is very bad news.

Dylan Roussel, the developer who discovered the problem, emphasizes that this vulnerability is on the side of Huawei, which still remains unresolved. The bottom line is that the AppGallery API does not offer any protection for paid apps.

Roussel himself was able to download and use several paid apps by exploiting this vulnerability. Obviously, this is a big problem, because with the active exploitation of the vulnerability, developers will receive less profit from the possible sale of their applications.

It remains to be hoped that Huawei will soon solve the problem.
