NetApp and Cisco Unveil FlexPod XCS Platform
NetApp and Cisco this week unveiled a single, automated platform for modern applications, data, and hybrid cloud services, the FlexPod XCS, an evolution of the FlexPod platform.
FlexPod is made up of pre-validated Cisco and NetApp storage, networking and server technologies. The new FlexPod XCS platform is designed to accelerate the delivery of modern applications and data in a hybrid cloud environment. It is claimed to be the first and so far the only hybrid cloud solution natively integrated with all three major public cloud providers. In addition, organizations will be able to use FlexPod-as-a-Service, a pay-as-you-grow pricing model that provides financial and operational flexibility.
“For many years, FlexPod has been helping Presidio customers improve application performance, save software capital costs, and reduce unplanned downtime,” said Raphael Meyerowitz, vice president of engineering at Presidio. “With FlexPod, XCS NetApp and Cisco provide our customers with greater flexibility, availability, and scalability to ensure a seamless hybrid cloud experience.”
According to partners, FlexPod XCS simplifies the hybrid cloud experience by improving availability and scalability, extending infrastructure from standard consumer-side and cloud edge hosting to hybrid cloud. This new offering sets the stage for further collaborative innovation that will bring new hybrid cloud, container, and modern workload solutions to market.
FlexPod XCS provides hybrid cloud connectivity, end-to-end infrastructure automation across the lifecycle using Cisco Intersight Cloud Orchestrator and NetApp automated scripts and workflows to simplify day-to-day IT operations, including configuring, deploying, expanding, utilizing, and optimizing infrastructure. Platform benefits include an enhanced and unified view of all FlexPod components with Cisco Intersight, and a reference architecture with NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP (CVO) instances on AWS: FlexPod XCS and ONTAP integration with automation through Cisco Intersight
The FlexPod XCS platform preview is currently only available to existing customers, with broad availability expected in mid-2022.

Up to 80 GB of memory and liquid cooling. Nvidia is preparing a new version of the A100 accelerator

Although Nvidia recently introduced the H100 accelerator on the new Hopper architecture, the company is preparing a new version of the old Nvidia A100 on the Ampere architecture.
The new version stands out with a liquid cooling system instead of the passive one of the regular version. Given the release of the new version of the adapter, Nvidia clearly will not be phasing them out after the release of the H100. Recall that new items will be released sometime in the second half of the year, but the company did not specify the timing.
The Nvidia A100 in the PCIe version has 40 or 80 GB of memory and delivers 19.5 TFLOPS of performance.
