Neckband with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 5000 mAh battery. Motorola has announced an unusual wearable device
Motorola, in collaboration with the American operator Verizon, introduced an extremely atypical wearable device – a neck strap with a 5000 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 single-chip system. In their blog, the developers explain that such a strap is a 5G modem, battery and processor for augmented reality systems (AR) and virtual reality helmets (VR).
The intention of the engineers is easy to understand. Users complain that modern virtual reality headsets and helmets are very bulky and heavy. But if you take most of the components out of the helmet, then you can significantly lighten it. Motorola and Verizon have come up with the idea of moving most (if not all components) of AR and VR devices around the neck in order to make the device as light as possible when worn on the head.
Lenovo says the cord (no official name) is compatible with its ThinkReality A3 headset, and Verizon believes it will make watching movies in VR theaters and exercising more convenient.
In fact, the neck-mounted device includes more components than what has been listed. So, it integrates an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a SIM card slot, loudspeakers and even a touch panel for control. The product is compatible with the Qualcomm Snapdragon VR platform and Microsoft Remote Network Driver Interface Specification (RNDIS). Neither the cost of the lace, nor the date of commencement of sales has not yet been reported.

One Galaxy S23 Ultra costs Samsung $469 with a retail price of $1,200

The flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra sells for $1,200, and the company costs almost three times less.
According to Counterpoint analysis, the production of the flagship costs Samsung about $469. Thus, Samsung makes more than $700 on each Galaxy S23 Ultra, but this, of course, does not take into account many factors, including marketing, R&D and so on. And even assembly is not taken into account here, although it is usually very cheap in terms of one device.
More than a third of the production price of the flagship comes from the SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, that is, the platform costs about $ 165, which is very, very much. Second place in price goes to the screen (18% of the cost), followed by cameras (14%) and memory (11%). 67% of the cost of production comes from Qualcomm and Samsung components.

Japan will try to transfer energy from space to Earth as early as 2025

Japan is going to transfer energy from space to Earth as early as 2025. We are talking about the transfer of energy received from solar panels placed in space. Of course, without any cables.
There are few details about the project yet. It is known that it will be implemented by private companies with the support of the state. It is also reported that the project will involve small orbiting satellites, which will transmit energy in the microwave range to Earth.
In itself, the technology of energy transmission over the air is not at all new, but in the case of such a project, we are talking about distances of hundreds of kilometers. The Japanese space agency JAXA made a breakthrough in this area back in 2015, when scientists managed to transfer 1.8 kW of power, but then the distance was only 50 meters.
At the same time, even if Japanese scientists succeed, the technology of transmitting solar energy directly from space is unlikely to become widespread in the foreseeable future, since now calculations show that about 7 billion dollars need to be spent on generating 1 GW of power in orbit, and how much of them will be able to deliver to Earth, and it is not yet clear at all.

This is the second generation of the iconic NH-D15 super cooler. There are not many changes, but it’s still a long time to wait for the release

Noctua first showed a new generation of CPU cooler NH-D15.
Outwardly, the cooler has changed very little, so they decided not to change the name. But, for example, there were eight heat pipes against six in the first generation. In addition, the gap between the ribs was reduced from 1.9 to 1.6 mm.
Two new-generation 140mm fans will be responsible for airflow, details of which are not yet available. All of this combined should make the iconic cooler a bit more performant, although now, almost 10 years after its release, it is still one of the best-performing CPU coolers on the market.
Despite the demonstration, the release of the novelty is still far away: Noctua is going to release the cooler only next year.
