NASA prepares VIPER lunar rover



The NASA space agency is currently actively working on the implementation and improvement of the LED-lighting and headlights system for its VIPER space rover, which intends to engage in detailed and detailed exploration of the moon in the foreseeable future. One of the main tasks of this rover is to find and potentially detect traces of water on the Moon, and for this it will need to use a whole range of tools and technological approaches, some of which are really difficult to implement and configure, not to mention the possibility of introducing some additional algorithms. VIPER for their automatic operation.

The VIPER development team is currently actively working within the walls of the Ames research laboratory in California, where it has already presented a more or less final version of the new LED lighting for its VIPER lunar rover – it turned out that among hundreds of viewed and analyzed spectra of LED light and ultraviolet radiation, the development team opted for a bright blue LED lighting that will be placed and tuned into the rover as LED headlights.

This is not to say that such a choice is irrational, since it is the current light blue-light spectrum of LED lighting that is ideal for detecting various interesting places and rock samples even in the darkest corners of the moon. In addition, the development team is also working to adapt the operation of this LED lighting for the set of built-in cameras in the rover itself, as they do the extremely important job of registering potentially interesting objects on the lunar surface.

The NASA team on the VIPER rover is still silent about this or that level of training that the rover has achieved now, since the priority of this research mission remains high enough, and the team does not have time to preliminary cover all the details. So it can be expected that she will demonstrate more or less detailed analysis of the rover already at the stage of completion, or when she starts ground experiments and tests of the rover in various conditions and use scenarios.
