Most unhappy: Google, Microsoft and Amazon are forcing employees to return to offices
At a recent virtual meeting, Google CEO Sundar Pichai read out one of the most popular questions for company employees: “Google is making record profits during the pandemic, why do you (Google management) want to return employees to the office at this time?”
According to the source, Google will require most employees to return to their offices three days a week to work. Since the start of the pandemic, the company has always said it hopes people will eventually be able to return to the office. However, many employees expressed concern and questioned whether a return to regular offices was really necessary.
Tech companies, including Google, have done particularly well during the pandemic. Thanks in part to a plethora of cloud-based collaboration tools. Employees are accustomed to being flexible and being able to spend more time with their families. Now that many companies are forcing their workers to return to work, the job market continues to tighten.
Two-thirds of employers say they expect employees to work full-time in the office again. However, half of the employees say they will look for a new job if necessary. A serious conflict arose between employers and employees on the topic of returning to work.
Many companies have changed their policies several times. In June 2021, Amazon withdrew its original plan to return to office work and notified permanent employees that the company would allow them to return to the office three days a week without requiring a permanent presence. Amazon said in October that the decision would be left up to individual teams.
Microsoft and Google have added a 30-day “transition period” to make it easier for employees to adjust to returning to regular offices. Google made its first attempt to get employees back into the office last spring, before the resurgence of Covid-19 infections in the United States. At the time, Google says employees can apply to work remotely for up to 12 months. However, this will only be approved in “the most exceptional circumstances”.

Up to 80 GB of memory and liquid cooling. Nvidia is preparing a new version of the A100 accelerator

Although Nvidia recently introduced the H100 accelerator on the new Hopper architecture, the company is preparing a new version of the old Nvidia A100 on the Ampere architecture.
The new version stands out with a liquid cooling system instead of the passive one of the regular version. Given the release of the new version of the adapter, Nvidia clearly will not be phasing them out after the release of the H100. Recall that new items will be released sometime in the second half of the year, but the company did not specify the timing.
The Nvidia A100 in the PCIe version has 40 or 80 GB of memory and delivers 19.5 TFLOPS of performance.
