Modern reviews of video cards need to be redone? Tests showed a strong dependence of the results on the processor brand
It seems that when choosing a top gaming PC, you need to be very careful when choosing a processor-video card bundle, and not at all because some CPU may not reveal a flagship graphics adapter. As recent tests of the STS channel have shown, for some reason there is a significant difference between the “correct” and “incorrect” bundles.
The authors decided to check whether the choice of processor manufacturer affects the performance of top 3D cards from AMD and Nvidia. It turned out that it does not just affect, but influences very strongly.
As you can see, when choosing a Radeon RX 7900 graphics card, it makes sense to buy an AMD processor. At a minimum, the Ryzen 7 7700X benchmarks point to just that. With the Ryzen CPU, the new Radeon products demonstrate significantly better performance than with the Core i7-13700K. At the same time, GeForce RTX 40 video cards, on the contrary, prefer Intel CPUs. That is, there is no universal solution.
The dependence of video cards on processors shown in the review is very strange, and we need to wait for other similar tests to draw final conclusions. But if the results are confirmed, it will be a fairly significant factor influencing the comparative tests of 3D cards and their selection by users.

Core i7-1260P, up to 48GB RAM and up to 4TB SSD. Huawei unveils all-new Qingyun G540 laptop weighing just 1.39kg

Huawei has introduced a completely new line of laptops – Qingyun. This series is aimed at corporate clients, and the first model in the line was Qingyun G540.
Huawei has tried to make the laptop thin and light – the thickness is 17.2 mm, weight – 1.39 kg. The body is made of aluminum alloy, and the lid leans back to a decent 180° angle
The diagonal of the IPS screen is 14 inches, the resolution is Full HD. Provides coverage of 100% of the sRGB color space. The hardware platform is based on 12th generation Intel Core processors, in the top version – Core i7-1260P. The base has 16 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and a 512 GB SSD. But the RAM can be upgraded up to 48 GB and the SSD up to 4 TB.
Also in the configuration are two speakers with a total power of 4 W, a 56 W battery providing up to 11.5 hours of autonomy, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB 2.0, HDMI 1.4 video output, a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 interface and an RJ- 45 Gigabit Ethernet adapters. The package includes a 65W power supply.
Vesta with Qingyun G540 is presented with the Qingyun S540 model. Its parameters are exactly the same (down to thickness and weight), but in the description of the Qingyun S540 parameters, support for Wi-Fi 6 appears.

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX has fallen in price to the level of the recommended price. The card is now asking for $1,030, while the RTX 4080 starts at $1,250

Over the past couple of months, the Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card has been actively cheaper, and is now offered at a price below the recommended one. It seems that the time has come for the older RX 7900 XTX. Over the past few days, the adapter has significantly fallen in price both in the US and in Europe.
In the US, the card sells for $1,030 or more, with a suggested retail price of $1,000. That is, we can say that the prices were lowered almost to the recommended ones. What’s more, NewEgg is also temporarily offering a $30 discount coupon, so the Sapphire model can be purchased for exactly $1,000. In Europe, interestingly, the situation is even more curious. There, they ask for a card from 1090 euros, but you need to remember that this is the price including taxes, while in the USA for most states you need to add another tax to the price indicated above.
In any case, the RX 7900 XTX is becoming more profitable against the backdrop of the RTX 4080, which is not getting cheaper and is still sold at a price of 1250-1300 dollars / euros. At the same time, for example, in the latest Resident Evil 4, the AMD adapter is much faster than the competitor, and even with ray tracing retains a slight advantage.

Confirmed: AMD will follow the path of Intel. “Red” processors of the next generation will be hybrid – with large and small cores

Last month, AMD published a Processor Programming Reference (PPR) for its Zen 4 processors, codenamed Phoenix, and the description states that these CPUs will feature a combination of large and small cores. Thus, rumors are confirmed that AMD will switch to the principles of architecture, once introduced by Arm, and then adopted by Intel.
However, there will be one major difference from Intel: if the “blue” cores of different architectures are used in their CPUs (high-performance Golden / Raptor Cove and energy-efficient Gracemont), then AMD will have all the cores on the Zen 4 architecture, only conditionally small ones will receive less cache and will work at lower frequencies, but they will consume less energy. One of the Phoenix CPUs was previously lit up on the network – 2 of it are two “large” cores and four “small” ones. But this is just one of the options, and besides, it is clearly not the most powerful.
The premiere of Phoenix processors is expected at CES 2024 or a little later – in the second half of 2024.
