Modern electric vehicles often have a longer range than manufacturers claim. Published a large test of 19 cars

The Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) has published the results of a new mass test of the range of modern electric vehicles. And the results turned out to be better than the manufacturers themselves claim.

19 cars participated in testing: Polestar 2, Citroen e-C4, Xpeng G3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, two Tesla Model 3 in different trim levels, Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, Skoda Enyaq, Audi e-tron GT, BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Volvo XC40 Recharge, Opel Mokka-E, Fiat 500, Honda e, Hyundai Kona, Ioniq 5 and Mazda MX-30.

The tests were carried out under almost ideal conditions at 20-25 degrees and no precipitation. As a result, almost all cars exceeded the power reserve declared within the WLTP cycle. True, on average, only 6%.

Three models performed slightly worse than stated. These are Polestar 2, Citroen e-C4 and Xpeng G3. But they traveled only 3, 5 and 12 km less than indicated in the specifications.

If we talk about the leaders in absolute terms, they are the 2021 Tesla Model 3 Long Rage AWD with 655 km, the Ford Mustang Mach-e long Rage RWD with 618 km and the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S with 564 km.

And if we talk about exceeding the declared result, then the undisputed leader is the BMW iX3, which traveled 556 km, which is 20% better than the manufacturer promises.

It can also be noted that a number of cars were tested by NAF specialists last winter. For example, Tesla Model 3 Long Rage AWD then covered 515 km, Ford Mustang Mach-e long Rage RWD – 503 km, and BMW iX3 covered 432 km.

If we talk about charging speeds, then the leader was the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which took 19 minutes to replenish the charge from 6% to 80%.

As for the test format, it is done in a real-world environment. All machines are charged up to 100%, all operate in economy or similar mode, and all use recuperation. Cars travel on city and country roads, as well as on the highway at a speed of 60 to 110 km / h. At the same time, there is also a climb up to 1 km.
