Microsoft postpones full opening of offices until at least September

Published

Microsoft is one of the tech companies looking to open offices by the end of 2021, hoping that the COVID-19 pandemic will subside. For now, however, the Windows developer has postponed the full opening of offices from July to at least September 7th. The move is the result of “ongoing consultations with health experts,” according to a company spokesperson, cited by the source.

In an email to staff, Executive Vice President Kurt DelBene said the delay gave “additional flexibility” to employees making plans for the summer. He added that heads of local offices also have the right to resort to further delays if the situation in their area makes it too risky to return.

Microsoft is now in a “soft opening” phase, with a limited number of employees being able to return to their jobs. As of March, about 20% of employees have returned to the software giant’s offices around the world.
