Microsoft may acquire the entire ChatGPT development team. Almost all OpenAI employees have threatened to leave the company if the board does not resign.
OpenAI is reeling after its board of directors fired CEO Sam Altman last Friday: Today, more than 600 OpenAI employees signed an open letter threatening to leave the company unless the board resigns and reinstates Sam Altman along with co-founder and former president Greg Brockman.
“The process by which you fired Sam Altman and removed Greg Brockman from the board of directors jeopardized all of that work and undermined our mission and company. Your behavior has clearly demonstrated that you do not have the authority to control OpenAI“, the letter says.
Interestingly, among the signatories is Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s chief scientist and board member, who… is accused of coordinating a “coup” against Altman. Shortly before the letter was published, Sutskever tweeted (X): “I deeply regret my involvement in the actions of the board. I never intended to harm OpenAI. I love everything we’ve created together and will do whatever it takes to bring the company back together“
Today it became known that Altman’s successor as head of OpenAI, Kira Murati, was removed from her position as interim CEO, and Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Twitch, was appointed in her place. Almost simultaneously, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Altman and Brockman had joined Microsoft to lead a new cutting-edge artificial intelligence research unit.
In their letter, OpenAI employees threaten to join Altman at Microsoft. “Microsoft has assured us that the new subsidiary has positions for all OpenAI employees if we decide to join“, they write.
The exact reason for Altman’s dismissal remains unclear, even to many within the company. “Despite numerous requests to provide specific facts for your accusations, you have never provided any written evidence“, – said in a letter addressed to the board of directors.
The letter outlined the very real prospect that OpenAI would lose almost all of its staff and Microsoft would essentially acquire the entire company. OpenAI has approximately 770 employees.

Lenovo’s first AI laptop will be very quiet, but not always. Details about Xiaoxin Pro AI Ultrabook 2024

Lenovo has published a teaser dedicated to its first AI laptop – Xiaoxin Pro AI Ultrabook 2024. One of the main features of the device will be low noise level.
The image shows the cooling system of the Xiaoxin Pro AI Ultrabook 2024. Everything here is pretty standard for a model that does not have a dGPU: two heat pipes and two fans. The creators say that the minimum noise level of the system will be only 17 dBA, and this is really low. But there is a nuance: we are talking about noise at the minimum fan speed in energy saving mode. And although Lenovo says that the laptop’s performance in this mode will be high, it will still be far from what the Core Ultra processor can show in maximum performance mode.
The official premiere of the new product, apparently, will take place this week – immediately after Intel introduces the CPU Core Ultra. Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro AI Ultrabook 2024 will receive 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, an 84 Wh battery (the predecessor has 75 Wh) and support for 100-watt charging.

The iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24 lines will not receive an increase in RAM compared to their predecessors, despite the hype around AI

Samsung smartphones from the Galaxy S24 line and devices from the iPhone 16 line will likely retain the same RAM options that current models currently have.
Analysts at Mizuho Securities, cited by insider Revegnus, say that the growing demand for AI should, in theory, contribute to the growth of RAM in smartphones. We previously reported that thanks to the emphasis on AI, manufacturers may begin to actively equip their smartphones with 16-24 GB of RAM.
However, a significant increase in memory prices, as well as the still missing scenarios for local AI that will run directly on smartphones, will lead to the fact that next year manufacturers will not actively increase the amount of memory. In particular, Samsung and Apple can leave everything as it is now.
This means that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will each receive 6 GB of RAM, and the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will each receive 8 GB. Samsung’s new generation flagships will have 8 or 12 GB of RAM.
It is likely that other manufacturers will not rush to increase volumes, and this, in turn, may slow down the development of local AI on smartphones.
