Microsoft continues to buy studios for the Xbox division and has expanded its ZeniMax Media collection.

An unexpected alliance

ZeniMax Media is the parent company that also owns Bethesda Softworks, id Software, Arkane and other popular studios. So now the developers of Fallout, Prey, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM and other games are coming under Microsoft control.

More precisely, 2,300 specialists will join the corporation from:

  • Bethesda Softworks,
  • Bethesda Game Studios,
  • id Software,
  • ZeniMax Online Studios,
  • Arkane,
  • MachineGames,
  • Tango Gameworks,
  • Alpha Dog,
  • Roundhouse Studios.

“Over the years, I’ve spoken frequently with creative leaders at Bethesda about the future of games, and we have long shared similar views on the opportunities for creators and their games to expand their audience,” writes Phil Spencer, head of Xbox.

In addition to the Zenimax family of studios now part of the Xbox division, the Game Pass library on PC and consoles will be joined by Bethesda games. In addition, Spencer hinted that the upcoming Starfield will also be released on Xbox consoles and personal computers. Given that Bethesda has yet to announce platforms, the game could very well be a Microsoft console exclusive.

“Like us, Bethesda has a passion for creating diverse creative experiences, exploring new game franchises, and uncovering strong stories. Naturally, they will continue to develop their projects, and we look forward to providing them with the resources and support of Microsoft so that they can scale their creative vision to more players, ”added Spencer.
