Microsoft has acknowledged the existence of one annoying problem in the Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems. We are talking about problems with saving files, as well as copying and pasting them from the clipboard.

Microsoft admits problems with copying and saving files in Windows

Microsoft reported that some 32-bit applications are “affected by repeated crashes” when saving and copying files across multiple versions of Windows, especially when copying to network shares.

An intermittent issue affects applications that support large addresses and also use the CopyFile API on Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 (after installing KB5023774 or recent latest updates) or Windows 10 21H2 and 22H2 (after installing KB5023773 or later updates).

The developers explained:

Windows devices are more likely to be affected by this issue when using some commercial/enterprise security software that uses extended file attributes.

Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, only experience the issue when using 32-bit versions, and affected users may receive “Document not saved” errors.

At the moment, Microsoft has not yet fixed the crash in Windows 11 version 22H2. However, the company says that users can get around the problem without waiting for a “patch” by saving or copying the files again. In Windows 10 and Windows 11 21H2, the problem has already been fixed.

Artificial intelligence will create new business opportunities and lead to economic growth that will create new jobs, according to IBM chief executive Arvind Krishna.

Krishna said he believes the net effect of AI on employment will be “job creation” rather than job destruction, although it will replace humans in certain jobs.

On Sunday, IBM announced plans to invest $100 million in a joint research project with the University of Tokyo and the University of Chicago in an attempt to build a 100,000-qubit quantum supercomputer in 10 years.

AI will lead to job creation, and commercial applications of quantum computers will begin soon, according to the head of IBM

“Japan has accumulated a lot of experience in the field of quantum computing, accumulated over decades,” said Krishna. — Physicists, engineers and materials scientists are working on different aspects. Many people may not realize how deep Japan is in these areas.”

He predicted that quantum computing technology would advance step by step as part of a collaborative project in the next decade, with commercial applications starting in three to five years: “This is the time when people will be solving some problems that are probably too expensive or impossible for conventional computers. To do this, we need between 4,000 and 10,000 qubits.”

In quantum computing, a qubit, or quantum bit, is the basic unit of information, just like a binary bit is in conventional computers.

Turning on the display of seconds in the Windows 11

Microsoft recently released an update to Windows 11, which contains a number of new features and functionality. Including the ability to enable the display of seconds on the clock in the tray. At the same time, which is very unexpected, the inclusion of this function, according to Microsoft itself, increases power consumption and, as a result, reduces the autonomy of mobile PCs. The authors of the Neowin portal decided to check if this is really the case. It turned out that this is indeed the case.

Turning on the display of seconds in the Windows 11 system clock reduces the autonomy of laptops

The experiment showed that the display of seconds reduces the autonomy of the test laptop by about 1.9%. This is a very minor difference, but the very fact that it exists is interesting. It is also worth noting that the testing format assumed the operation of a laptop without any load, that is, the PC simply stood with the sleep mode turned off and simply gradually discharged.

The experiment with Windows 10 showed an almost identical result, so it’s not about Windows 11 at all. The source does not say what are the reasons for this behavior of the OS.

RTX isnt just for gaming Nvidia and Microsoft Show What

Microsoft continues to exploit the theme of generative AI at an accelerated pace and implement such technologies in its products. Now Nvidia has joined in. At the Microsoft Build event, companies showcased a set of improvements to Windows 11 PCs and workstations with Nvidia RTX GPUs.

The importance of this collaboration is that the same tensor cores in Nvidia RTX video cards, which in most cases are only needed to implement DLSS technology in games, will become useful in other areas.

For example, Nvidia graphics cards will enable the acceleration of the Nvidia AI software stack inside the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), which allows Linux to run directly on Windows 11. Developers will be able to use Windows PCs for all their local AI development needs with support for deep learning frameworks with GPU acceleration in WSL.

However, here you need to understand that these particular functions are likely to be available only for professional Nvidia RTX adapters, and not for GeForce.

However, the latter will not be left out of work. Nvidia promises to introduce a new low-power Max-Q inference for AI-only workloads on RTX GPUs soon. The solution is to optimize the performance of tensor cores in such a way as to keep the power consumption of the video card as low as possible. Simply put, Nvidia is optimizing mobile graphics cards to perform at their best with AI.
