Metaverse: UK convenes Meta to debate parental control

Published

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data privacy and usage regulator, wants to discuss with the Goal, owner of Facebook, regarding possible security mechanisms for children to access platforms of the metaverse with safety.

According to the newspaper The Guardian, the entity is concerned about the lack of parental control and moderation, as children can use their own or parents’ accounts to interact with strangers — including personal data used in the registration, which may go against local legislation.

Virtual realityUK calls on Facebook owner Meta to discuss child safety in the Metaverse.

The agency’s concerns are related to cases of abuse already recorded on another previous platform, VRChat, which also uses an avatar in virtual communication. In addition, he considers it mandatory to follow certain rules from Facebook itself, whose account is mandatory for login, such as being 13 years old or older to use a headset of this type.

What those involved say

“We are planning discussions with Meta about possibilities for children’s privacy and data protection in Oculus products and VR services. Parents and children who have concerns about how their information is managed can submit their complaints to us,” a spokesperson said. ICO voice.

In December 2021, during the early launch of the Horizon Worlds platform, the first case of harassment against a person in the virtual environment was recorded.

As breaking the local law against using children’s data can result in fines of up to £17.5m (approximately £135m in direct currency conversion), Meta is likely to collaborate to avoid future concerns. In response, the company said it is confident it will follow the conditions to ensure age-appropriate experiences for each user.

Nubia Z60 Ultra will refute the thesis about the uselessness

The Nubia brand today published details about the camera of the future flagship Nubia Z60 Ultra. In particular, we are talking about its module with an ultra-wide-angle lens.

Nubia Z60 Ultra will refute the thesis about the uselessness of ultra-wide-angle cameras in smartphones

With its new flagship, Nubia will try to “refute the theory that wide-angle cameras are useless.” This refers to photo quality: modules with ultra-wide-angle lenses are equipped with low-quality optics, low-resolution sensors and small optical formats, and all this naturally leads to the fact that the photo quality of the ultra-wide-angle camera is much inferior to the photo quality of the main camera.

But this will not happen in the Nubia Z60 Ultra: the corresponding module will have a fast (F/1.8) 50-megapixel 1/1.56-inch optical format sensor, complemented by an eight-element lens and an optical stabilization system. In general, this model will have triple OIS – in each of the three modules.

The official premiere of Nubia Z60 Ultra will take place on December 19. The smartphone will receive Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a 6000 mAh battery and IP68 protection.
