Meta may shut down Facebook and Instagram in Europe. The reason will be new European laws
In a report submitted to Meta by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company outlined a scenario in which it would have to shut down Facebook and Instagram in Europe.
Meta currently processes and stores user data in the US and Europe. Meta says handling data across continents is critical to its business. However, new European laws require that user data be stored and processed only on European servers.
At the moment, Meta is not compliant with the new European regulations, which in theory could lead to the closure of Facebook and Instagram in Europe.
If the new transatlantic data transmission system is not adopted and we cannot continue to rely on SCC or other alternative means of transporting data from Europe to the United States, we may not be able to offer some of our most important products and services, including Facebook and Instagram , in Europe
At the same time, Meta notes that the new rules will affect so many companies, so that it will not only suffer. And although Meta itself speaks of such a scenario, it is very difficult to imagine that it will be realized, given the popularity and importance of Facebook and Instagram for the modern world.

The AnTuTu benchmark team has published the latest rankings of the best Android smartphones in terms of price and performance in different price categories – as of the end of May 2023.
Experts noted the success of OnePlus and Oppo among economical sub-flagships and mid-range phones. In addition, the triumphant return of Meizu is celebrated with the Meizu 20 series, whose representatives took first place in two ratings at once.
In the cheapest category under 1999 yuan (up to $282), the first three places went to OnePlus Ace Racing Edition, iQOO Neo7 SE and Realme GT Neo5 SE.
The next price bracket, from 2000 to 2999 yuan ($283 to $424), gave the top three spots to the Remi K60, Lenovo Legion Y70 and Remi K60 Pro.
In the 3,000 to 3,999 yuan ($425 to $565) category, Meizu 20, iQOO Neo8 Pro, and iQOO 11 lead the way.
The Meizu 20 Pro, Oppo Find X6 and Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones topped the 4,000 yuan to 4,999 yuan ($566 to $707) category.
Among the most expensive flagships above $708, the Red Magic 8 Pro+ leads the way, followed by the Oppo Find X6 Pro and Honor Magic5 Pro.
Google has announced the imminent end of support for Google Assistant (Google Assistant) integration with third-party list and note apps. The Google Virtual Assistant will continue to interact closely only with the proprietary Google Keep application.
Maintaining shopping lists through Google Assistant can be quite convenient. It is enough for the user to give a voice command for the assistant to open the list or note, read it or edit it. However, users of third-party list and note apps have begun receiving warnings that Google Assistant voice commands will be discontinued as of June 20.
The documentation on the Google site also states:
Starting June 20, Google Assistant notes and lists will no longer work in non-Google apps.
Not only will users no longer be able to create notes/lists, it looks like notes/lists previously created with Google Assistant will disappear. On the support page under “Where are my old lists?” the company states that these notes/lists will also no longer be available after June 20th.
However, the tech giant offers a way to save this data before the deadline:
- Go to takeout.google.com
- Select Helper Notes & Lists.
- Save your information.
Google also stated that “lists you create by voice in Google Shopping will be saved in Google Keep.” But she clarified that shopping lists created by third-party services will not sync with Google Keep.
