Roskachestvo checked applications for clearing the memory of smartphones and reported on the results. These apps turned out to be tricky.

Experts from the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo found excessive access requests, an abundance of advertisements, signs of spyware.

A total of 60 Android applications were studied. As noted in Roskachestvo, this choice was made because “the likelihood of encountering low-quality and even fraudulent cleaners on Google Play is much higher than in the App Store.”

The most common disadvantage was the presence of a large amount of advertising, up to the difficulty of using the application. There were also noted disadvantages in the form of excessive requests for access to various functions of the smartphone and suspicious “interest” of applications in the Wi-Fi network. Finally, at least two applications show signs of embedded spyware.

In applications such as Master Phone Cleaner, Junk Clean, Cache cleaner, All Cleaner – Memory Clean, Speed Booster and Phone Master Cleaner: Cache clean & Speed Booster, the number and intrusiveness of ads “go beyond all boundaries.”

Among the applications that suspiciously “listen” to Wi-Fi traffic are Cleaner Ultimate – Battery Saver booster & cleaner, Super Power Cleaner, Clear Cache & Speed Up Phone and a number of others. Cleaner Ultimate – Battery Saver booster & cleaner asks for suspicious permissions for accessing the microphone and recording audio, while Super Power Cleaner, Clear Cache & Speed Up Phone and Ace Cleaner refuse to work without access to the camera.

The most serious suspicion was caused by two programs – Speed Cleaner – Phone Booster & Battery Saver and Phone Cleaner – Clean Ram & Junk Cleaner & Booster. These applications request a full package of access, including contacts and call management (which is generally atypical for this type of application).
