Meizu announced a partnership with Qualcomm back at the Snapdragon Summit in December. The company is expected to release new flagship phones in the Meizu 18 line soon based on the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
According to a well-known Chinese insider under the nickname Digital Chat Station, Meizu 18 smartphones have already been certified in China, they received model numbers M181Q and M191Q. Last year, the Meizu 17 and 17 Pro received model numbers M081Q and M091Q, respectively. In 2018, Meizu 16 and 16 Plus received model numbers M882Q and M892Q, respectively.

It is also reported that smartphones will be equipped with 4000 and 4500 mAh batteries, respectively. Another interesting point is the lack of a charger. The 3C regulator database clearly states that the models will be “sold without standard power supply”.
In the fall, Apple removed the charger and headphones from the iPhone 12. Xiaomi followed suit with the Xiaomi Mi 11, however, unlike Apple, the company also offers customers a version with a charger. The Samsung Galaxy S21 does not have a charger either. Now other companies can safely remove accessories from the delivery set, for which no one will blame them.
The Meizu 18 is expected to receive an OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a periscope camera, 100W wired fast charging, and 40-55W wireless fast charging.
Enthusiast replaced the numeric keypad with a disk from an old phone
It would seem that it is almost impossible to change such a thing as a keyboard in any original way. However, the user under the nickname Squidgeefish succeeded. He added a real disk from an old wired telephone to a regular keyboard and made it all work.
The disk is placed on the right and performs the functions of a digital block – only numbers need to be entered by turning the dialer. And here a problem arises – such a system is analog, and any modern keyboard is digital. The enthusiast was able to connect the drive from the phone using the DFRobot Beetle Board based on the ATmega32U4 chip. This board is able to work with analog signals and at the same time supports a standard USB port.
I also had to experiment with the keyboard itself, because I had to cut the printed circuit board. And for aesthetics, the enthusiast added 3D-printed makers. The result is a rather strange and quirky, but fully functional keyboard. According to the source, the cost of the project was no more than $30.
At the same time, using the disk, you can enter not only numbers, but also special characters, such as the percent sign, brackets, and so on. And instead of the standard digital buttons, the enthusiast put a stub.
All leaders will lose, but Apple will strengthen. TrendForce published a forecast for the smartphone market
According to TrendForce analysts, in the third quarter of this year, the smartphone market sank by 11%, to 289 million units.
The market leaders were Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo, but the current quarter will temporarily change the balance of power. According to analysts, Apple will increase its share from 17.6% to 24.6%, overtaking Samsung, which will occupy 20.2% against the current 22.2%. This is not the first time that Apple has become a market leader in the fourth quarter, which is explained by the release of a new generation of iPhone.
At the same time, it can be seen that the source predicts a decrease in market share for all leaders, except for Apple. It is worth noting that in this case, the source considers the sales of Oppo as sales including Realme, which is not typical. It also counts OnePlus sales, but that’s normal after a merger.
All Snapdragon Pro Series gamers will now be forced to use Samsung smartphones
Qualcomm has chosen Samsung as an official partner of the Snapdragon Pro series of smartphones.
Among other things, this means that gamers who compete in the Snapdragon Pro Series Mobile Challenge and Mobile Masters will only use Snapdragon SoC-based Samsung Galaxy devices from the Snapdragon Pro Series Mobile Challenge Finals at DreamHack Valencia. That is, we are talking about one of the largest leagues in mobile eSports.
We are committed to bringing high-performance Snapdragon processor-based Samsung Galaxy devices to billions of gamers around the world to keep the spirit of camaraderie and competition going.
Which Samsung smartphones will be used by gamers is still unclear, but in recent years, the company’s devices have gained not the best fame among gamers, which is due to gaming services and related features.
