MediaTek recently unveiled the Pentonic 2000 smart TV chip, pledging that it “gives flagship 8K TVs incredible features and innovative technologies in the areas of display, sound, artificial intelligence, broadcast and communications.” By the way, according to the manufacturer’s estimates, today there are more than 2 billion TV sets in the world that use its microcircuits.

The new chip supports 8K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. This also applies to the built-in MEMC (Motion Estimation / Motion Compensation) block. The built-in multi-core AI processor developed by MediaTek supports the MediaTek AI-Picture Quality engine with second generation scene recognition and third generation object recognition technologies. Since most content is streamed below 8K, support for 8K AI-Super Resolution technology is important, which intelligently scales content to the display’s native resolution as well as improves image quality in real time.

The Pentonic 2000 is said to be the highest performing product in its category, featuring the industry’s fastest CPU / GPU combination, backed by high memory bandwidth and high-speed UFS 3.1 storage. In addition, the Pentonic 2000 is the first commercial TV IC based on TSMC N7 (7nm class) technology for high performance and energy efficiency.

It is also the first commercial 8K TV IC to support Versatile Video Coding (VVC) H.266, a coding standard that provides improved compression efficiency for next generation streaming and broadcast media. In addition, the Pentonic 2000 supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for “the best cinematic quality.” Of course, the widely used hardware decoding engines HEVC, VP9, ?? AVS3 and AV1 are supported.

The Pentonic 2000 also mentions its proprietary Intelligent View technology, which allows multiple picture-in-picture (PiP) or picture-by-picture (PbP) screens, allowing a large 8K display to display a “video wall” of content from a variety of media sources.

Leveraging the USB and PCIe connectivity available in the Pentonic 2000, TV designers can add MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E solutions like the Filogic 320 or 330, or even MediaTek 5G cellular solutions to provide the fastest wireless internet connection needed for streaming. 8K or multiple streams for PiP and PbP.

The platform’s versatility, supporting, among other things, the next-generation ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard, allows manufacturers to develop one model for many markets.

For 25 years motherboards of well known brands like MSI Gigabyte

The data of the largest German retailer suggests that motherboards from well-known manufacturers have risen in price significantly in the past few years. This applies to both Intel CPU and AMD CPU models. But in fairness, it should be noted that motherboards based on AMD chipsets added a little less.

For 2.5 years, motherboards of well-known brands like MSI, Gigabyte and ASRock have risen in price in Europe by 35-40%

The average cost of a motherboard for Intel processors in November 2020 was 140.78 euros, the average price of such a motherboard now, as of March 2023, is already 197 euros. Growth – by 40%. In November 2020, the average cost of a motherboard for AMD processors was 120.5 euros, now it is 163 euros. Growth – by 35% with a little.

It is difficult to explain such an increase by inflation and the laws of the market alone. Most likely, the rise in price is due to the transition to DDR5 and the introduction of support for the PCIe 5 bus.

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) and other top executives allegedly instructed employees on multiple occasions to hide the exchange’s presence in China. The latter included running an office until at least the end of 2019 and using a local bank to pay salaries.

“We no longer publish office addresses… people in China can directly say that we are not there,” the newspaper quoted Zhao as saying in a November 2017 work chat.

At the end of 2019, employees discussed a media report about Binance’s plans to establish a headquarters in Beijing.

“Reminder: We publicly have offices in Malta, Singapore and Uganda. Please do not confirm any other jurisdictions, including China,” said one of the posts.

From a work email, it appears that the company instructed newcomers on how to properly use a VPN to hide their location.

On Monday, Binance was sued by US regulators for allegedly serving US customers illegally. The U.S. Commodity Futures Commission also alleges that Binance “deliberately” did not disclose the location of its offices and that claims that the headquarters is located where Zhao is located reflect a “deliberate attempt to avoid regulation.”
