Media: Twitter will have paid-access videos, and soon

Published

Microblogging network Twitter is testing a new feature that will allow content creators to monetize content and charge money for watching videos. The novelty is called Paywalled Video and is a video that will open only after payment, writes the Washington Post, citing internal correspondence of the company’s employees.

You will have to pay $1, $2,5 or $10 to watch certain videos, while the network will receive a commission on each sale, but the amount is not reported. Payment will go through the Stripe service. At the same time, those who have not paid to view will only be able to like or retweet the post. Whether it will be possible to download it is unknown. As expected, the novelty can be launched in a week or two, but only 3 days have been allocated for testing.

The source does not exclude that due to the rush at the start, there may be problems with the functioning of Paywalled Video. There is also an assumption that this will allow 18+ materials to be distributed online. Finally, it may cause copyright issues.

This is far from the only change to Twitter. Earlier, Elon Musk had already decided to introduce a new version of the Twitter Blue subscription for $8 per month. It will also allow you to add a blue verification checkmark to your account.

Google has introduced several new features for the OS without updating the version of Android.

For example, now Android has a Reading mode. This is a fairly serious innovation, which even requires a separate application, which is already available on Google Play.

The new mode is designed to optimize the reading process, allowing you to adjust the contrast, speech synthesis, font size and type, as well as highlight the main thing on the page. In general, Google says that the mode is intended for users with visual impairments and dyslexia, but people without the mentioned problems will be able to use some of its functions.

The main highlight of the new mode is that it works at the system level, which means that all kinds of settings can be configured, regardless of the application used.

Google also made available a speed-controlled text-to-speech feature with a choice of “natural-sounding voices” to choose from, and support for English, French, Italian, and Spanish.

In addition, the digital car key function has been updated, which allows you to use your smartphone instead of a car key. Now users can share these same digital keys. It is possible to view activity and control access to the machine. Currently, this feature is only supported by Pixel 6 and iPhone smartphones, but the list will expand in the near future.

Note that for several months Google ADT-3 was almost impossible to purchase.

The ADT-3 is the third in a series of developer devices that Google is offering to test apps with Android TV updates. The Google ADT-3 debuted in January 2020 for $79 and was sold through Askey. The predecessor, ADT-2, was released about two years earlier at Google I/O 2018.

While the Google ADT-3 is no longer available, Android TV 13 and Google TV 13 Developer Previews are still only available for this device. For now, the only way out for them is the Android TV OS emulator in Android Studio.
