Already tonight, the DART mission spacecraft will crash into the asteroid Dimorph. To form a more complete picture, the collision will be monitored, including space telescopes. Moreover, for the newest “James Webb” this will be a very difficult task, since it was not originally designed for this at all. But scientists will better understand the possibilities of the observatory. “Hubble”, in turn, will be able to start observing only 15 minutes after the impact, since at the time of the impact it will be on the other side of the Earth.

The goal of the DART mission is not even to change the course of the asteroid itself, but to understand whether it can be done in this way, and how effective it is. Based on the results of this mission, people will have a better understanding of whether it is possible to prevent the threat of a collision with the Earth of any space body in this way.

True, specifically within the framework of the DART mission, the conditions are very specific. Firstly, the Dimorph asteroid itself, which is a satellite of the larger Didyma, has a diameter of only about 160 meters, that is, in the event of a fall to Earth, it will certainly pose a significant threat, but the collision will not become a catastrophe on a planetary scale. Secondly, the satellite that will hit the asteroid, although it will do so at a speed of 6.6 km / s, is only about 1.2 meters across. However, in any case, this is a unique mission and a unique case for scientists.

The fact is that the novelty has two modes of operation. The standard GPU frequency is 2520 MHz for both versions. In Performance mode, the core frequency of OC Lab rises to 2595 MHz, while for OC Lab Plus it already reaches 2625 MHz. And that’s lower than the Asus ROG Strix OC or MSI Suprim Liquid at 2640 MHz. But here the power limit in this mode rises to a symbolic 666 watts. At what frequencies the GPU will work in this mode in real conditions, it is not clear, so we need to wait for the tests. But from the point of view of the power limit, there is no equal to the novelty. By the way, 666 W is more than the allowable 600 W for the new 12VHPWR connector. But everything is explained simply: the new Galax products have two such connectors. True, this means that the risk of incorrectly connecting the power is doubled.

At the last The Game Awards 2022 ceremony, the first trailer of the debut game of the Ghost Story Games studio was shown. Its founder is Ken Levin, the “father” of the BioShock series. The new project is called Judas, and it’s very similar to BioShock.

The plot unfolds on board a spaceship, which is gradually being destroyed. The hero is a character named Judas, who needs to find a way to escape, and for this he will have to unite with his worst enemies.

The game promises a non-linear and variable plot with several endings, different options for passing, and so on. It is noteworthy that the game looks and feels very similar to BioShock. It has the aesthetics of retrofuturism, superpowers and elements of phantasmagoria. For example, the hero can install implants in his hand to use fire or electric attacks. It also reminds a lot of Atomic Heart, which was also shown at TGA.

At the moment, it is not reported when the game will appear. But there is already a list of platforms – PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, that is, only on modern solutions.

As we learned today, reviews of the Radeon RX 7900 video cards will be published on December 12th. But the first tests in normal benchmarks appeared today.

Both of AMD’s new products lit up in 3DMark. Unfortunately, in the Fire Strike and Time Spy tests, which are quite old, it is still much better than the results in Geekbench.

True, the results of AMD’s new products themselves look debatable. In Time Spy at 4K, there is almost no difference between the RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT, and both cards perform roughly on par with the GeForce RTX 4080.

In Fire Strike, the younger RX 7900 XT is already successfully fighting the RTX 4080, and the older RX 7900 XTX is about 10% faster. Relative to the RX 6950 XT, AMD’s new flagship provides a gain of 25-30%, which is rather modest. And this can be written down as a minus for AMD’s new products, especially against the background of the catastrophically more powerful RTX 4090.

However, keep in mind the prices. The RX 7900 XT, which in both tests is quite suitable for a direct competitor to the RTX 4080 in terms of performance, is cheaper than the Nvidia card by $300 or 25%! And against this background, the lag behind the RTX 4090 is completely irrelevant. And if you calculate the ratio of performance and price, AMD’s new products look much better than the same RTX 4090, not to mention the RTX 4080.

Of course, in games the situation may be somewhat different, especially since these 3DMark tests are very old. But here it is worth noting that, if you look at the comparison of the RTX 30 and RX 6000 cards, the balance of power roughly corresponds to what the cards show in games.
