In the past year, the number of malware and other malicious software on Apple Mac computers increased, however, according to this indicator, computers running the Windows operating system “lead” by a wide margin.

Security researchers at AV-TEST found 674,273 new malware samples for macOS in 2020. On the other hand, they identified a total of 56,556 samples in 2019 and 92,570 samples in 2018. Over the past year, the number of malware for this platform has increased more than tenfold. In addition, much more unique malware was detected, indicating that malware developers are paying more attention to the Mac.

It is noteworthy that in the period from 2012 to 2019, AV-TEST specialists identified only 219,257 malware samples for this platform. Despite the fact that the number of malware on Mac is growing rapidly, this platform is still very far from Windows. The same company found that 91.05 million malware samples were created for the Microsoft platform in the past year, an all-time high. The previous record was recorded a year earlier.

Based on this data, Windows malware developers created an average of 250,000 new threats every day. For the Mac, fewer than 2,000 new threats were created per day.

Mark Gurman: new Mac minis with M2 and M2 Pro processors are already in development, but they will get the old design

Instead, according to the expert, models with M2 and M2 Pro processors are expected. However, their design will remain the same. The new Mac mini, codenamed J473, will feature the M2 chip. The version with the M2 Pro received the code J474. The source notes that Apple does not plan to release Mac mini with M2 Max or Ultra chips, most likely they will be kept for Mac Pro.

As for other models with M2 chips, Gurman believes that the Mac Studio may be a short-lived product, since it is positioned for the same audience as the Mac Pro. Also in the fall, the MacBook Pro is expected to appear with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors.

Previously, Gurman reported that Macbook Air will only appear in old colors.

The blogger built a gaming computer into the toilet to play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on it

A blogger named Basically Homeless recently turned his own toilet into a gaming computer, and its basic functionality was not violated. To do this, he built a backlit game system into a porcelain toilet bowl, and built a cooling fan into the top cover.

The configuration uses an Intel Core i7-12700 processor, a Z690I Unify mini-ITX motherboard, 64GB of G.Skill Trident Z5 RAM, and an Asus-made Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card. An MSI Optix monitor with a frequency of 240 Hz was placed on the wall. On this system, the author was able to play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on a computer.

Now I know more about plumbing than I ever thought I knew.“, – the author specified.

And earlier, another blogger leaked the console version of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl to the network.

The consumer PC is on a whole new level. New generation Mac Pro on SoC M2 Extreme may be presented at the end of the year

Journalist and insider Mark Gurman supplemented his data regarding this PC. He says that Apple may announce the Mac Pro at the end of this year, but it will be available for sale early next year.

Moreover, the new Mac Pro was allegedly ready a few months ago, and Apple could have released it with a platform from the M1 line, but decided to postpone the launch until the SoC M2 Extreme is ready.

What will be the M2 Extreme is not yet clear, since it has no analogues in the M1 line. But earlier there were rumors of 40 CPU cores and 128 GPU cores, which is just twice as much as the M1 Ultra, so that’s exactly what the new Apple platform could be. Given the performance of the M1 Ultra, one can only imagine how impressive the capabilities of the new Mac Pro will be.

But what will be the new Mac Pro itself, while there are not even rumors. Considering the transition to Apple Silicon, the new product may lose a lot in the ability to update or change the configuration by the users themselves.
