May 31, 2021 was the last day for LG smartphones to be produced. The company announced its retirement from the mobile business back in April, but it took the company a while to stop production.

Various phones will continue to be sold for now, but the company expects to completely phase out its mobile business by July 31, 2021. The company will continue to support existing devices for a while. LG has officially confirmed that its premium smartphones launched in 2019 and later will receive three numbered updates to the Android operating system. This means the LG G8, LG V50, LG V60, LG Velvet and LG Wing smartphones will be updated to Android 13 as they all launched with Android 10. Mid-range smartphones including the LG Stylo 6 and some LG K models will get two OS updates, that is, will be updated to Android 12. Users will be able to receive after-sales service for 4 years from the date of manufacture of the device.

The LG Electronics plant in Vietnam, where most of LG’s phones were manufactured, will now make home appliances. LG has already shifted part of its manufacturing capacity to dumping household appliances so that employees do not lose jobs. By the end of July, all employees who previously worked with smartphones will be transferred to the production of household appliances.

Recently it was revealed that LG employees in South Korea were given an exclusive opportunity to purchase unreleased LG Rollable and Velvet 2 Pro smartphones at very low prices.

The factory in Haiphong, Vietnam was founded in 2015 and manufactures TVs and home appliances.
