As we previously reported, Leica Camera AG and Sharp recently announced a long-term technology partnership. The first smartphone developed jointly was the Sharp AQUOS R6 smartphone. Leica today announced the release of the first smartphone under its own brand. The model, dubbed the Leitz Phone 1, will be available in July.

Leica has made it clear that the Leitz Phone 1 is actually a renamed and slightly different outwardly Aquos R6. Named after the original Leica brand, the device echoes the legendary manufacturer’s cameras in design and comes complete with a magnetic circular lens cover. Instead of a leather back panel, the device has received a black matte glass panel, which is combined with a Leica silver metal case. The thickness of the device remained the same as that of the Sharp Aquos R6 – 9.5 mm, but the weight increased slightly – from 207 to 212 mm. You can protect the back with the included hard case.

In terms of technical characteristics, Leitz Phone 1 almost completely repeats the Aquos R6, but the amount of flash memory has been doubled – from 128 to 256 GB. The microSD slot allows you to expand the storage up to 1TB. The Leitz Phone 1 runs Android 11 with a “predominantly monochrome” branded user interface.

Leitz Phone 1 is currently an exclusive product of Softbank in Japan and costs about $ 1,700. Acceptance of pre-orders will begin tomorrow, June 18th. There is no information on availability in other countries yet.

Arm didn’t say much about ray tracing in the Immortalis-G715. So far, no tests or full-fledged comparisons have been presented, so it is not yet possible to assess the quality of work and the number of frames per second. At the same time, ready-made solutions will have to wait until 2023. However, Arm still shared a video that demonstrates the capabilities of the new graphics solution.

Previously, a new super-powerful Cortex-X3 processor core was reported. Less productive solutions were also presented.

iPhone users who for some reason don’t like Apple smartwatches will be able to use new models based on Wear OS.

If you want to buy a smart watch for the iPhone, but not an Apple Watch. Wear OS 3 supports iOS even though the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 doesn't

The first and so far the only watch on Wear OS 3 is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. And it doesn’t work with iOS. But apparently this is an artificial limitation on Samsung’s part, as it has now become known that Wear OS 3 itself can work with iOS.

Qualcomm confirmed this by saying that the upcoming Montblanc Summit 3 watch will be compatible with the iPhone. This watch will be the first with Wear OS 3 after Samsung devices. True, it will be an expensive $1,290 watch, but there should be many more Wear OS 3 models on the market this year, so iPhone owners will have a choice.

Apple has not been able to create its own 5G

Apple has yet to make headway in building its own 5G cellular modem for its smartphones and tablets.

Apple has not been able to create its own 5G modem yet. The company will continue to use Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 lines

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Qualcomm will remain the only supplier of 5G modems not only for the upcoming iPhone 14 smartphones, but also for the iPhone 15 line. That is, Apple is clearly far from the final stage in its work on its own modem .

Kuo believes that Apple will not give up on this idea and continue development, but it is not yet clear when the modem will be ready. In any case, before the launch of 6G networks, Apple has many more years. In addition, a six-year agreement between Apple and Qualcomm obliges the former to use modems by the second minimum until 2024.

It is expected that this year Apple smartphones will use the Snapdragon X65 modem, and next it will be the Snapdragon X70.
