Last year recorded record growth in sales of gaming PCs and monitors

Published

on

Analysts at IDC estimate that 55 million gaming PCs and monitors were sold worldwide in 2020. The indicated value corresponds to an increase in comparison with 2019 by 26.8%. Analysts point out that these are the largest indicators of growth and sales in quantitative terms since the beginning of observations in 2016.

According to IDC, the growth is due to the fact that in the context of the pandemic, people spent more time playing on PCs and consoles.

The largest segment, as in 2019, was gaming laptops. They sold 24.0 million units. The average selling price was $ 1,041. IDC experts predict that 27.9 million laptops will be sold this year at an average price of $ 1,055, and between 2020 and 2025 this segment will grow at an average annual rate of 7.0%, so that in 2025, sales will reach 33. 7 million pieces. The average price will then be $ 1,030.

Desktop PCs sold 16.7 million units in 2020 at an average price of $ 762. Analysts expect 17.5 million units of gaming PCs to be sold this year, and 15.7 million units in 2025. That is, the segment will shrink. On average, the reduction will be 1.2% per year. At the same time, the average price this year will decrease to $ 750, and by 2025 – to $ 721.

As for gaming monitors, 14.3 million units were sold in a year. The average price was $ 338. It is projected to sell 19.7 million gaming monitors this year at an average price of $ 352. In the period from 2020 to 2025, the average annual sales growth in this segment will be 10.5%. If that forecast comes true, 23.5 million devices will be sold in 2025 at an average price of $ 343.

The 13th generation Intel Core processors (Raptor Lake) continue to amaze with their overclocking capabilities and, as a result, performance. Another experiment was set up on an engineering sample of the Core i9-13900KF, whose high-performance cores were overclocked to a frequency of 6.2 GHz. The frequency of 5.2 GHz was also the most energy efficient.

Overclocked to 6.2 GHz, the Intel Core i9-13900K processor was 60% faster than the current flagship AMD Ryzen 5950X

In Cinebench R23, this CPU scored 42,790 in the multi-threaded test and 2263 in the single-threaded test – a very good result, especially considering that the tested CPU with lower frequencies – 5.8 GHz (high-performance cores) and 4.7 GHz (energy efficient) . With such overclocking, the Core i9-13900KF turned out to be noticeably faster than both the Core i9-12900K and even more so the Ryzen 9 5950X in a single-threaded test, and in a multi-threaded performance difference is about 50% in favor of the new Intel CPU.

In addition to Cinebench, the overclocked Core i9-13900KF was also tested in CPU-Z. In this test, it outperformed the Ryzen 9 5950X by about 60% in both single and multi-threaded tests. The superiority over the Core i9-12900K in the multi-threaded test is 70%, in the single-threaded test it is already 20%.

The results of testing the mysterious Intel A580 graphics card

The entry-level A380 graphics cards have already entered the market, and the A750, A770 and A780 are expected to appear in the near future. However, so far there has been very little information about middle management solutions. And now, in the database of the gaming benchmark from Ashes of Singularity, references to the A580 model appeared.

The GPU was tested at 1080p, where it scored 9300 points and about 95 FPS. At the same time, testing was carried out using the Vulkan graphical interface, and not DirectX12. For comparison, the RTX 3060 graphics card produces 75-96 FPS at similar settings on Vulkan.

Of course, you can’t rate the card on only one result, since the characteristics of the test platform, driver version and other indicators are unknown. However, the available data look encouraging.

At the same time, Intel itself announced another card as a competitor to the RTX 3060 – the potentially more powerful A750. It remains to wait for their release in order to compare solutions directly.

Earlier it was reported that the A380 cards have already reached the United States.

“The sale of SIM cards is really becoming more expensive and meaningless,” MTS will reduce sales of SIM cards and the number of communication stores

The sale of SIM cards is really becoming more

MTS President Vyacheslav Nikolaev said that the company plans to move towards reducing sales of SIM-cards, as well as reducing their points of sale.

It seems to me that now, when the cost of SIM cards has increased by an order of magnitude, it’s time to heal this market. Therefore, from the point of view of sales of SIM cards, it seems to me that the sales volume can now be reduced, especially since for us, ecosystem effects provide very serious advantages in reducing the outflow – this also allows us to take sales more calmly.

Nikolaev noted that an increasing number of customers are also moving online, which also allows, in terms of telecom, to reduce the number of their own points of sale.

From the point of view of telecom, it seems to me that this is a very timely issue, and perhaps the right actions will be taken by the entire market. At least we will go in this direction. We hope that colleagues will not be far behind, because selling SIM cards is indeed becoming more expensive and pointless.

As we have already reported, MTS may sell its tower business.
