Japan’s CIPA, a group of Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh, Sony and other photographic equipment companies, has released data on digital camera and interchangeable lens sales for November last year. In short, sales declined compared to October, which remains the best month of 2020, but this pattern has been observed in previous years.

Digital cameras were sold in a month 1,040,371. This is 72.8% of sales in November 2019. For comparison: 1,134,888 cameras were sold in October 2020, which was 77.2% of the October 2019 figure.

Sales of cameras with interchangeable lenses for the month decreased from 754 658 to 666 228 units. These values are 86.4% and 81.4% of the indicators for October and November 2019.

It is curious that sales of compact cameras for the month decreased to a lesser extent – from 380,230 to 374,143 units. At the same time, in annual terms, sales of compact cameras fell the most: in 2020, the November figure was equal to 61.4% of the November 2019 figure.

When you count the sales of interchangeable lenses from January to November, mirrorless cameras account for 54.5% of sales in terms of quantity and 71.1% in terms of money.
