Konka Aphaea Watch – World’s First Smartwatch Showcased at MicroLED

Samsung recently announced the world’s first consumer TV based on MicroLED technology, but the problem is that the cost of such devices is still prohibitive and only a few can afford them. And yesterday, the famous Chinese manufacturer Konka announced the creation of Aphaea Watch – the first in the world smart watch on MicroLED.

MicroLED technology, like OLED, is based on self-emitting pixels, giving such devices infinite contrast and true blacks. The advantage of MicroLEDs is also a higher brightness and less susceptibility to burnout due to the inorganic origin of the diodes. Unlike classic liquid crystals, the new screens are not afraid of temperature exposure and can operate in the range from -30 to +70 ° C.

Konka says their MicroLED display has a brightness of 1,500 nits and 147% DCI-P3 coverage. The high autonomy is explained by the low power consumption of the screen: the press release claims up to 35 days of battery life.

It is known that many companies are working in this direction today, including Applethat acquired the respective startup. The last plans of the Cupertinians were to release smartwatches on MicroLED in 2023, but maybe Konka’s breakthrough will spur them up a bit?
