Japan to introduce digital vaccination certificates

Japan is set to introduce digital certificates confirming COVID-19 vaccination, according to the Nikkei news agency. Earlier it became known that the EU countries, China and other countries have taken or are planning to take similar measures. It is assumed that the certificates will allow the resumption of international traffic.

The certificate will be available in a mobile application, which will allow you to present it as proof of vaccination when boarding a plane or checking in at a hotel.

The pandemic has wreaked havoc on international travel, with air travel declining by two-thirds last year. The tourism industry has suffered even more. Vaccination passports are viewed by some as a panacea to revive tourism, but imminent discrimination is hampering their implementation.

In the EU, digital certificates of vaccination are planned to be introduced by the summer. China has already launched its own variant this month, but still requires vaccinated travelers to be quarantined after arriving on the mainland. In Japan, certificates are still issued in paper form.
