It’s like a Samsung Galaxy S20 inside a computer. Windows 11 Android emulator tested in benchmark

Published

on

During the June announcement of Windows 11, Microsoft introduced the ability to work with Android applications as a key feature of the new operating system. Later it became known that this Windows 11 feature was postponed for at least several months, but sooner or later it will still be finalized and implemented in the OS. Its work is mediated by an emulator developed by Microsoft together with Intel. It is a common application called Windows Subsystem for Android, and it’s even available in the Microsoft Store already. Some of the users have already managed to run the Geekebnch test using the emulator, and now we have the Android equivalent of Windows 11 performance.

The emulator is defined as an 8-core Qualcomm platform paired with 4-6 GB of RAM (the amount of RAM in the emulator depends on the amount of RAM in the computer itself). The best results in the emulator tests are 695 points in a single-threaded test and 2432 points in a multi-threaded one. This is the level of the Samsung Galaxy S20: it has 764 and 2569 points, respectively. So you don’t have to worry that Windows 11’s performance might not be enough to open any Android application.

Honda to start installing Android on on-board computers in cars starting next year

Published

on

Honda Motor has partnered with Google to begin installing Android on the on-board computers of major car models sold around the world next year. Users will be able to navigate, play music records, voice control and other features – all without using a smartphone.

Google’s Android Automotive system, introduced in 2015, has the same basic design as the Android operating system for smartphones. Volvo Cars tried it first (the illustration shows a Volvo car), followed by other automakers, including General Motors. Nissan Motor was the first among Japanese companies. Honda will be second.

Honda has a history of using Android Auto, a technology that makes it easier to use Android smartphones in cars. But Android Auto relies on a smartphone for navigation and other features. In the case of Android Automotive, a smartphone is not needed. Google Voice Control can be used to control air conditioning and other functions that are not directly related to driving and are therefore safe.

The operating system will also be installed on electric vehicles. It will allow you to find compatible charging stations, get directions to them and optimize the temperature of the battery when you arrive to charge, to reduce the time required for charging.
