It became known why popular applications do not support Dynamic Island in the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple hasn’t released the API yet

The new iPhone 14 Pro cutout called Dynamic Island supports about 40 different scenarios, showing information about incoming calls, AirPods and Apple Watch pairing, Face ID authentication, Apple Pay, AirDrop, charging progress, and more.

Even before the start of sales, a heated discussion was caused by the fact that the applications that are extremely popular in China, including WeChat, Tencent Video and others, have not yet been optimized for use with Dynamic Island. Users have reported that WeChat notification pop-ups do not appear in the Dynamic Island interactive area, but simply under this notch, which does not respond to the application in any way.

Now it became known why WeChat was not adapted for Dynamic Island. A software developer installed the Xcode 14.1 beta (iOS development program) to understand the Dynamic Island Application Programming Interface (API) on the iPhone 14 Pro, but discovered that Apple had not yet opened the API. This confirms that third-party developers cannot yet adjust their applications to the Dynamic Island cutout.

In addition, third-party software developers who wish to use the Dynamic Island area must contact Apple for permission. This explains the fact that many applications have not yet been adapted to the new cutout.

However, this is a matter of time, the list of supported applications will gradually expand.

How new iPhone 14 is more productive than its predecessors

The team of the popular Antutu benchmark has published a fresh monthly rating of the most productive Apple mobile devices.

How new iPhone 14 is more productive than its predecessors: Antutu's latest ranking of the fastest iPhones and iPads

At the end of September, it became clear how good smartphones in the new iPhone 14 line are in terms of performance. According to Antutu experts, although the iPhone 14 did not perform very well, the iPhone 14 Pro still boasts good results thanks to the A16 SoC and 6 GB of RAM.

As we can see, the iPhone 14 Pro managed to take 4th place in the ranking, losing in performance to Apple tablets – iPad Pro 5 of different diagonals and iPad Air 5 based on the Apple M1 SoC. At the same time, the more expensive and larger iPhone 14 Pro Max took fifth place, scoring less than the iPhone 14 Pro.

According to Antutu experts, the reason for this is due to the large screen size of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Assuming that the basic configuration of the two models is almost the same, the difference in screen size gives a difference of about 2000 pixels. The base model iPhone 14 got into the Antutu rating, but only in tenth place.

Last year’s iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max took eighth and seventh places, respectively, and the iPhone 13 was not included in the ranking.

The data was collected from September 1 to September 30, 2022. It is worth noting that the table shows the average, not the highest results, while at least 1000 tests were used for each model.
