iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max became the best-selling phones in the world
Analyst Francisco Geronimo of IDC reports that Apple’s iPhone 13 was the world’s best-selling smartphone in the first quarter of this year despite major supply issues.
IDC does not disclose the total number of devices sold, as well as the market share of phones. The company recalls that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 were the top-selling phones of 2021 and 2020, respectively, so the iPhone 13 was expected to perform similarly. The iPhone 13 retails for $800 in the US, offering an Apple A15 Bionic SoC, a dual camera setup, a 6.1-inch notched display, and iOS 15.
The 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max took second place in the first quarter of 2022, indicating that people are more than willing to pay more for a bigger screen, better camera, and longer battery life.
The 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro took a respectable fourth place, while the tiny 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini failed to make the top five. The latter further explains the rumors about Apple’s decision to phase out the iPhone mini. Combined, the iPhone 13 family accounts for 84% of total iPhone revenue in the first three months of 2022. The rest of the revenue comes from the iPhone SE (2022) and older iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 models. Analysts believe that the iPhone 14 could be even more successful.
Two 6.1-inch iPhones from Apple made the top five last quarter. But perhaps more important is the fact that the 6.7-inch Apple Pro model is outselling the 6.1-inch version. So the next generation 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max could be an extremely profitable model for Apple. It will offer everything consumers love about Apple’s regular bestseller, but in a larger form factor that will be much more affordable than the Pro line.
The entry-level Samsung Galaxy A12 ranked third in the first quarter, while the mid-range Galaxy A32 ranked fifth.

Redmi K70 Pro presented: an AI smartphone with a super-bright, flicker-free screen, record-breaking (for Redmi) performance and a brand new camera

Today in China, Redmi officially introduced the new flagship Redmi K70 Pro. This is the brand’s first smartphone based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 single-chip system.
Accordingly, this is the most powerful Redmi in history. In AnTuTu, Redmi K70 Pro scores 2.247 million points – on par with Xiaomi 14 and other flagships on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (except for Red Magic 9 Pro). A very large vapor chamber is responsible for cooling the SoC and components.
The temperature of the components is monitored by 9 sensors, and they are located not only in the area of the SoC and battery, but also in the main camera modules. Data from these sensors is analyzed by AI. In general, AI is used almost everywhere in the Redmi K70 Pro (this also applies to scenarios for using the smartphone by the user, and analysis of shooting conditions, and optimization of performance in games), so it can well be called an AI smartphone. Sorry, Samsung.
The OLED C8 screen, jointly developed by TCL and Redmi, is characterized by a diagonal of 6.67 inches and a resolution of 2K. An important feature of the display is ultra-high brightness of 4000 cd/sq.m. In terms of peak brightness, Redmi K70 Pro has surpassed all smartphones currently on the market. But OnePlus 12 will have higher peak brightness.
The main sensor of the Redmi K70 Pro main camera is a 50-megapixel Light and Shadow Hunter 800 optical format 1/1.55 inches with large pixels measuring 2 microns. The module with it includes a wide-angle lens with an F/1.6 aperture and an optical image stabilization system.
The module with a telephoto lens (it provides 2x optical zoom) uses a 50-megapixel sensor, and the third module uses a 12-megapixel sensor and an ultra-wide-angle lens with a viewing angle of 120°.
The Redmi K70 Pro battery capacity is 5000 mAh and supports 120 W charging. Redmi K70 Pro is the brand’s first model with HyperOS based on Android 14 out of the box.
Prices for the version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory are $460. Redmi K70 Pro has become the most affordable smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; other flagships are about $100 more expensive.

In 9 months of 2023, Samsung sold more than 25 million Galaxy S23 smartphones, almost half of them were Galaxy S23 Ultra

Hana Securities shared sales statistics for Samsung smartphones this year. It turned out that during the period from January to September, Samsung sold 25.06 million smartphones of the flagship Galaxy S23 line – 23% more than the Galaxy S22 was sold during the same period.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra leads the sales structure: 11.63 million devices were sold in 9 months. In second place is the base Galaxy S23 with a result of 8.91 million, and the Galaxy S23 Plus is in the least demand – 4.52 million units were sold.
But Samsung’s line of folding flagships of the new generation is not much more popular than its predecessors: 4.86 million devices of the Galaxy Z5 line were sold in 3 months – only 4% more than in 2022, devices of the Galaxy Z4 series were sold during the same period. The most popular is the Galaxy Z Flip5, with 3.08 million units sold. Sales of Galaxy Z Fold5 amounted to 1.79 million units.

A giant 160-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. Honor Magic6 Pro will stand out from all other smartphones on the market

While Samsung is only promoting its 200-megapixel sensors as “telephotos,” Honor is preparing the world’s first smartphone with such a 160-megapixel camera.
The carrier of such a camera will be Magic6 Pro. It will have a 160-megapixel sensor, but there are no details here. Perhaps physically it will still be a sensor with a resolution of 200 megapixels, but Honor will limit its working area in such a way that only 160 megapixels will be active.
The main camera of the new product will be based on the Omnivision OV50K sensor. This is not an inch sensor, but quite large – 1/1.3-inch optical format. Interestingly, the Honor Magic5 Pro has a larger main camera sensor – 1/1.12 inches.
Insider Digital Chat Station, who shared the information, was previously the first to accurately report the characteristics and release dates of Redmi K30, K40, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 11.
