iPhone 12 with dual SIM will lose 5G

Apple’s new iPhones will finally get support for the next generation of networks – 5G. And as you may know, this tech giant has been releasing dual SIM versions of the iPhone for several years now. However, the downside here is that these smartphones are exclusive to some regions, for example, China. And as it became known, residents of the aforementioned country this time will have to choose between two SIM cards and 5G. According to an internal Apple teaching document that has exposed the issue, the upcoming dual SIM iPhones will not support 5G.

Initially, the dual-SIM versions of the iPhone were introduced with the release of the iPhone XS, and it’s not even worth talking about the benefits of this feature – two SIM cards are incredibly useful. However, the nuance of these versions is that they have a classic and familiar to everyone slot for a physical Nano SIM, as well as an embedded chip, thanks to which you can connect an eSIM. However, with the latter, again, in some countries, problems may arise, since the availability of eSIM connectivity depends solely on the operators operating in a particular country. But one way or another, now those who decide to buy an iPhone 12 with two SIM cards will have one more problem.

According to Apple itself, “when using two lines in Dual SIM mode, 5G data will not be supported on any of the lines.” However, do not be afraid that you will be left without the Internet, because in this case, your smartphone will switch to 4G LTE mode. There is also the possibility of using 5G with such smartphones. To do this, you simply have to use one SIM card, and it does not matter whether it is physical or electronic.

If you trust the words of MacRumors, then Apple is currently planning to release an update that will nevertheless fix this really stupid and unpleasant problem. However, this will not happen soon, namely at the end of this year or early next year. So in the event that you were planning to take an iPhone 12 with two SIM cards at the release and enjoy 5G speeds, then you will have to wait a bit before your smartphone starts working correctly in this regard. But in any case, at least the fact that the company itself is aware that such a problem is present and needs to be eliminated is encouraging. True, here you can ask another question – why does the company not eliminate this shortcoming immediately for release? In any case, hopefully the company will release a hotfix update as early as possible.
