Inuru has reached a milestone by accepting orders to print OLED light sources in any shape. They are suitable for use as design elements, freeing designers from the constraints of standard components of this kind. Printing mastered on a new pilot line in Berlin.
Today, LEDs are commonly used to illuminate certain shapes or surfaces. In this case, it is necessary to make light guides or organize a projection from a distance of several millimeters. This makes lighting fixtures bulky and expensive, despite the low unit cost per LED. The disadvantage of this approach is also the non-uniformity of the glow, which can only be eliminated by increasing the number of LEDs, which leads to an increase in cost.
In turn, OLED has the thickness of paper and does not require light guides. Inuru equipment allows you to print a luminous element of the desired shape – about the same as a color image is printed on paper today. The thickness of the resulting light source is 0.2 mm, not a few millimeters. There is no inhomogeneity in principle, since each point on the surface directly emits light.
Logos and other important elements on packages and labels were named among the examples of the use of new elements. The paper-thin light sources are both super-bright and energy-efficient. They can work even from thin batteries, also made by printing. This allows you to use the glow and digital effects in a limited space.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not provide prices and lead times for orders.
