Intel’s new people’s processors. What are the Core i5-11600KF and Core i5-11400F capable of in the first tests?

Over the past couple of weeks, quite a few reviews of the Core i7-11700K processor have appeared on the Web, as at least one major store sold more than a hundred such CPUs a month before release.

But today an overview of more affordable new Intel products – Core i5-11600KF and Core i5-11400F – has appeared on the Web. These are six-core CPUs with Hyper-Threading support. The first operates at frequencies of 3.9-4.9 GHz, the frequencies of the second are 2.6-4.4 GHz. Recall that in the Rocket Lake lineup there will be no Core i3 and lower processors, instead, Comet Lake Refresh will be released, that is, slightly improved old CPUs.

So what do the tests show? It should be noted that there are few tests, and there are no other processors on the diagrams. But we ourselves can correlate the results, for example, in Cinebench with the results of other processors.

For example, the Core i5-10600K in Cinebench R15 scores about 185 and 1485 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively, and in Cinebench R20 the result is about 490 and 3600 points. That is, the new product is 15-30% faster than its predecessor, depending on the test and mode. In multi-threaded mode, by the way, the gain is the smallest. Core i5-11400F, in turn, is ahead of its predecessor by 20-30%.

At the same time, the Ryzen 5 5600X is slightly ahead of the Core i5-11600KF and is significantly ahead of the younger novelty. Although he will not compete with the younger one.

The author also checked the power consumption and it turned out that the Core i5-11600KF under load in the form of AIDA64 consumes an average of 209 watts, and the Core i5-11400F requires about 145 watts.

The device will be built on the M2 platform and will receive a completely passive cooling system. The bezels of the screen and keyboard will be reduced, and the top row of keys will become full-size. But there will be no FaceID system, SD card slot and HDMI video output.

It looks like the new Intel processors will significantly raise the price bar. A large American network MicroCenter has already added a couple of new Alder Lake generation products to its range.

The Core i7-12700K is priced at $ 470, while the top-end Core i9-12900K will cost $ 670. For comparison, the Core i9-11900K has a MSRP of $ 550, and Intel’s flagship model has always cost about the same for many years.

Of course, there hasn’t been an official announcement yet, so we don’t know the recommended prices. But today we have already seen an example from Germany, where the price was also above $ 600.

What’s missing in the new MacBook Pros yet? Support for external video cards did not appear here either.

As you know, the first Apple laptops on the SoC M1 do not support external video cards. We now know this is true for the new M1 Pro and M1 Max-based MacBook Pros as well.

Despite the presence of Thinderbolt 4 ports, Apple’s new laptops lack support for external graphics cards, and the company has yet to explain this limitation. Perhaps it is primarily due to the Apple Silicon architecture.

Of course, we have already seen that, at least for the M1 Max, using an external video card may be pointless, but we will not mention the M1 Pro and the original M1.

Whether support for external video cards will appear in future Apple laptops with its own platforms is anyone’s guess. It is possible that GPU performance in Apple Silicon will grow at such a rate that discrete adapters will really not be useful in the corresponding bundles.
