Intel Xe-HPC Ponte Vecchio Processor Has Over 100 Billion Transistors

Raja Koduri, Senior Vice President, Chief Architect and General Manager of Architecture, Graphics and Software at Intel Corporation, posted a video of “one of the greatest engineering marvels Intel has ever created.” This is a processor for the Xe-HPC Ponte Vecchio accelerator, designed for high performance computing.
The processor, which has earned the name “petaflops in the palm of your hand”, consists of 47 “cells” or “tiles”, united in a common body. Different crystals are made according to different technological standards and perform different functions. The total number of transistors exceeds 100 billion.
According to Koduri, the processor was created in just two years after the concept appeared, which is a huge achievement. It is expected to become the heart of many systems that require enormous computing power, especially such as AI. Claiming that the processor performance reaches petaflops, Koduri did not specify the bit depth of operations at which it is achieved. In addition, the power consumption and heat dissipation of the processor, as well as its price, are still unknown.
Peta-flops in your palm. An ambitious dream. @intel silicon engineers along with our packaging alchemists made it come true in just 2 years! @pgelsinger's infectious energy for technology is a great accelerant for our march onwards to bring this magic to a cloud near you pic.twitter.com/C4LMuNrY2F
